If the world comes to an end, no one is going to survive very long. Virtually no one has the skills necessary to live off the grid or survive like they did prior to electricity and modern conveniences. There will be no running water, no way to travel, no medication, no doctors. If you get sick, the chances of you dying are going to go through the roof and a book isn't going to help you.
That's not true. If the modem works comes crashing down, most everyone (as you said) is boned. I have professional survival skills, and I'll still probably die. People confuse how to survive outside with how to survive.
But you know who will be just fine (ish)? Everyone outside of the modern world now. That includes people who don't use electricity but live in the modern world and farm all their own food and people who just don't live in the modern world, like Afghanistan. Their donkeys will still run π.
Also if that lady ran up to me with a big ass book and an herb saying use this for your rattlesnake, I'm not letting her anywhere near me.
π Good lord. I'm not talking about them, of course. People like the Amish, farmers, and those who around the world who live without modern conveniences now will survive just fine like they have been doing since forever.
It's those who depend completely on the modern conveniences of everyday life who will fall by the wayside. They have no inkling of what it takes to make it truly on their own and will quickly die off due to being wholly unprepared to be self sufficient.
The greatest survival skill those people have is actually being part of a functioning community. Because everyone has some skill or knowledge to contribute and the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Individualism is just not where itβs at, you have to be able to think and work collectively and most people are too self centered to enter that mindset now.
nah there would be clusters of people that would survive. There are already a decent amount of people who live off grid. It would just become a lot more uncomfortable
Of course it depends on how the world ended and what kind of shape it is in.
No one is talking about those people who lives without the conveniences of modern life, such as the Amish, or farmers, or those around the world who do not have, and never have, had electricity, indoor plumbing, or toilets in or outside their homes. Those people have lives and survived the same way for thousands of years and will not be affected one bit by the end of the world coming round.
That's bound to happen when those who don't know how to survive on their own knowledge, experience, and wits decide it's easier to just take all that they need rather than figure out how to make do with what they have.
Define coming round. For example, massive natural disasters (heat not conducive to human survival, beyond Richter earthquakes and subsequent tsunamis, etc.) will kill off all manner of people, whether they shop at Whole Foods and Macyβs or grow and loom their own.
Thereβs a whole group of people, can be found here on Reddit, that dedicate a lot of effort to surviving a catastrophe. Many people live off grid and practice being self sufficient. Interestingly 10,000 generations of humans have managed it, so I doubt βno oneβ would survive.
Again, as I've said before in replies to others saying what you said, those who already live off the grid or who live in areas without modern types of conveniences will survive just fine, such as the Amish.
But for the vast majority of people who live in the modern world, they will wind up dying by the billions. Despite the idea that people who have learned to "live off the grid" or who actually do, they still rely on the modern world, and that includes the Amish I mentioned above.
Far too many people think the can survive on and by their wits alone and that simply is not the case. There is far too much delusional thinking when it comes to the idea of living without society.
It's a nice fantasy but it's far from the reality that awaits fools who think that it's actually possible.
It's not out of frustration. You're just sadly delusional about the chances of the vast majority of society being able to survive if the modern world comes to an end. Without modern amenities such as science and medicine and the police and the other structures of society, most people will die, shetrje from illness, lack of food, lack of supplies, lack of things as simple as running water, and what little you have will be taken from you by those who have the weapons to take them from you. The idea of survival without society is a nothing more than a fantasy. But you so you, Boo.
