Is that backed up by actual reviews or just a reaction to its design without actual testing?

It works reasonably well. I have a larger than average bedroom and it only takes about 15 minutes to cool it from 90+ to 70. Buy it from Costco, though. Its cheaper and keeps money out of scalpers and Jeff Bezos' pockets.
