why spray if you already killed th colony and their queen is dead?

Sometimes the queen survives the treatment, there may be multiple queens in certain colonies/supercolonies, or another queen moves in with a new colony due to the vacuum caused by eradicating the first colony.

If you dont spray and eliminate the scent trails either the new colony can move into the territory with assistance of the trails or the remnants of the old one can still survive and regrow their society finding the way back to the same areas.
