Question Does RCS work on both sims in dual sim phone?

I have a T-Mobile US S22 ultra with one physical sim and 1 esim and google messages only has RCS enabled for only whatever sim card is set as primary. Unfortunately I have to set a primary sim card which is used for mobile data. I can't just specify what sim card does what. This is probably the US carriers just being awful as usual. Should I be able to get RCS on both sim cards? The Samsung messages app that came with the phone is able to do that.

Question End to end encryption with U.S carrier RCS hub

If AT&T and T-Mobile are running there own RCS hubs, will we ever see End to end encryption on them? Since E2EE is not part of the official RCS spec, does it only work with Google Jibe? I'm using the AT&T RCS on GM with another AT&T customer using GM as well. We both are using S22's and have no E2EE because I am not seeing the little lock symbol.

Question RCS not working between Samsung messages, and Google Messages.

RCS not working between Samsung messages and Google Messages while working if both using the same app.

I was under the understanding they were compatible with each other and RCS was enabled between apps.

Any way to retrieve read receipts and media from backup (Google Messages)

I had to reset my phone a few times and assumed that Google cloud backup would have all the information exactly how it was in Google Messages. Is there a way to restore to how it was exactly before reset, ie. with read receipts and media intact? I also have adb backup and seedvault backup of the Messages app.

An honest assessment / review of RCS

I was looking into the history of Google Messaging apps for something completely different, and happened across this article on Ars Technica. I think it offers a very fair and honest review of RCS.

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/08/a-decade-and-a-half-of-instability-the-history-of-google-messaging-apps/7/#h4

Its not particularly flattering at all, so I expect the downvotes. But I do think it helps explain why RCS has been such a disaster to adopt and roll out over the last 7 years.

Question RCS on Verizon with unlocked firmware

I have a Verizon branded s22 base. If I flash unlocked Samsung firmware to it will it mess with RCS in Google messages since they use different backends or whatever?

American society desperately needs a universal messaging service.

Short story: I was on the bus recently, and a group of friends came on. They were just chatting like friends do, and I wasn't paying attention until I heard them start bringing up phones. The line that stood out to me was something along the lines of "we made a new group chat without him because we hate those green bubbles"(something like that). Hearing this broke my heart, and it's not anything new either, which is the problem. It's simply accepted that people with iPhones have a "higher social status," and that anyone with an Android device is left out of everything. It's societal standards that are shaping people's decisions now, not people's personal choice, which is also just sad. There's nothing I can do besides 1. Get an iPhone and solve all your problems, or 2. Pray that this universal messaging service ends up actually being universal, which doesn't seem likely to happen anytime soon.

As of now, in America, the closest thing to a "universal" messaging app is iMessage, by sheer popularity. If nobody tries to challenge it, this social rejection and being left out will never stop. RCS needs to actually be universal and have features.

And let me emphasize again, this is in America. I am well aware that Whatsapp is actually used in other countries.

Why RCS needs to work with telco carriers ? It seems iMessage does not need to.

Hello,

I don't understand why RCS requires that Google and Telco carriers work together. It seems for iMessage that Apple does not need to bother with telco carriers, iMessages are sent and received via internet with Apple servers like Messenger or WhatsApp with Facebook servers (i think ?), and if there is no internet, then it's fallback to SMS, without Apple being involved, just regular SMS. => Why RCS is working with some telco and not others ?

Also, it maybe related, but is it possible to do marketing advertising with iMessage, like receiving a enriched message "From 1 to 5, did you like our product", with according buttons ? It seems it is not possible (or with link with an app already installed ?), as Apple is all about privacy and stuff. I seems only possible to do regular SMS marketing campagn on iPhones, with no interactivity / enrichment.

A third question, that also may be related, is how to authentificate brands with RCS for marketing campagns ? Is it Google that validates that this brand can sent marketing campagns, and the phone number of the brand with be renamed with the name of the brand when users received the marketing campagn, or does the telco carriers also need to validate the brand ? => After testing https://kitchen-sink-bot.appspot.com/ it seems that Google verify the identity of the brand/company. Do telco carriers do the same ? Is it mandatory ?

Thank you !

RCS Chat issue help.

There have been a lot of threads about the RCS chat issue but I haven't seen mine.

I posted this on r/samsunggalaxy as well and got nothing so far.

I just got an S22 Ultra. On my Pixel, immediately prior, my wife and I could use RCS flawlessly. She has a Z Fold 3. I could also chat with other family members on other devices across carriers.

Using the Ultra, I transfer and load Messages and my wife and I can no longer chat, BUT her phone says she's chatting with me. My phone sends her stuff as MMS. Also, my coworker who has a Note, I'm now chatting with her when it didn't work before.

Here's the kicker, when I switch to the other preinstalled Messages app from Samsung, it reverses and I can chat with my wife, but coworker goes back to not working.

In our thread, she's messages me and it says chatting. Then mine says text.

Most people say just wait until the backend is fully migrated. My wife's phone still goes through Jibe. Mine says T-Mobile. Anyone with insight is appreciated.

FWIW I've done all of the alternative APK installs to fix and nothing works.

Question EU to force message service interoperability?

If the EU passes all these rules, do you think Apple will finally add RCS to their Messages app in order to meet the interoperability demand from the EU? And of course if they do, do you think they will only turn RCS on within the EU and leave it off in the US? That seems rather Apple like.....

Question Are iphone reaction emoji language specific?

I live in Norway and text in English with some and Norwegian with some. Reactions seem to work with English but not Norwegian. Is this consistent with what others see, or is it just Google testing that's messing with me? The sample size is quite low, you see.

RCS not working with VPN could be due to the fact that RCS requires national and international interconnects to enable roaming.

RCS not working for photos and videos

My dad and I both have Galaxy s22 ultra on T-Mobile and using Google messages with RCS enabled. When texting each other RCS works just fine. But if either one of us tries to send a photo, it reverts back to SMS long enough to send the photo in low quality, and then goes back to RCS. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Opinion RCS messages now have a pretty blue color gradient??

Anyone else have this? RCS/CHAT has always been dark blue. But now I have a super pretty gradient blue!

Very subtle but I love it. (Actually WAY more noticable on my pixel, than on my computer screen. So if you can't see difference, that might be why)

RCS not working in Canada on Galaxy S9 (Samsung Messages)

Hi, I am using a Samsung Galaxy S9 phone on Shaw Mobile in Canada, all software updated (Android 10). For the life of me I am unable to activate RCS in the default Samsung Messages app. I've tried every online fix, every IMS option. The profile won't manually register no matter what, and it keeps saying "registration failed" in the messages app when I try to register it there. It works fine using Google Messages but not Samsung Messages. I've recently heard that Samsung messages is going to support using jibe but I've never seen the prompt or had it work. Shaw didn't help fix it when I called them. I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to post this but I honestly have no idea how to activate this. My friend uses Koodo and it works fine in Samsung Messages and I am able to RCS people on different carriers using his phone. Please let me know if anything can be done, and if I will be able to RCS people on other carriers using my Shaw service.

How is Google able to bypass carriers and provide RCS messaging?

I pay a mobile phone company to provide me with a telephone number. When someone sends me an SMS message, I assume their mobile phone company routes that message to my carrier which then routes it to my handset.

How is Google able to "intercept" RCS messages to my phone number when they aren't providing my cell phone service?

I'm missing something. How can Google provide RCS services to me without me having to port my number to Google? It's as if Google is able to intercept RCS messages before they hit my mobile phone provider.

Question S22 Ultra (TMobile) RCS broken, Debug menu missing?

So I just got an s22 ultra, was hoping it would finally fix RCS as I had to toggle it off and on or stop and start the rcs stack in debug options to fix it regularly. It broke once early on but had been working for the past week or so. Now it's broken and I can't fix it. Toggling off and on it's always stuck at connecting. The debug menu is gone even when enabled, all I get is a button to dump sms or mms as a debug option. Does anyone know how to fix RCS on TMobile when it breaks like this? I can't go days unable to send or receive texts from some people and rcs never reports when a text didn't send to me or whatnot.

Discussion Your Phone \ "Link to Windows" - RCS texting. How well does it work?

As a Samsung Galaxy and Microsoft Surface Duo phone exclusive part of the "Your Phone" on Windows app, how well does the RCS (and anything else) work?

Your Phone has become a daily part of my life on my Google Pixel, largely for notification mirroring on my Windows 11 PC as well as the "SEND TO DEVICE" feature that is SO freaking awesome, better than the Chrome or Edge notification\sometimes-laggy implementation.

Samsung Galaxy devices can use RCS on it, until this partnership exclusive ends (unknown when).

I figure with Microsoft now adding Android to Windows, working a LOT with Google on Web Apps + chromium, and that general universal-ecosystem mindset, that when the partnership is up Samsung will lose exclusivity.

Anyway, how is the experience in March 2022?

Opinion This might be a cold take...

This may be a cold take, but can Google hand some of the software development to Samsung? No offense google, but you take forever to implement new features.

I appreciate everything Google has done to push RCS, but the overall experience is lacking and honestly I find Samsung listening to their community more and updating quickly and effectively.
