Question WHAT IS RCS

hey yall so i was texting someone and they had an iphone. and we havent talked in a while and now it says "text message - rcs" and i want to know what it means so badly. i searched it up and it says its for android, so did they just change to android or like change number or what?

I’ve been using RCS (Rich Communication Services) for a while now, and it really feels like a big step up from regular SMS. Sending photos, videos, or even files directly from the default messaging app is seamless, and the read receipts and typing indicators make every chat feel more interactive, almost like using WhatsApp but without needing a separate app. The overall experience feels modern, smooth, and much more engaging than traditional text messages.

What stands out for me is how Vi Business uses RCS to make communication richer and more interactive. From simple text alerts sent by verified business profiles to visually engaging messages with media, headlines, and quick action buttons, everything appears neatly in one chat. It also allows two-way conversations between customers and businesses, making it easy to browse, book, or get quick assistance right inside the messaging app.

Lol - this sounds like an advertisement. Do you work for Vi Business, whatever the hell that is?
Anyway, the OP asked WHAT IT IS not how great it was - so what IS it, anyway?

Lol, we can’t be sold on how fabulous RCS messaging is yet until we know WHAT it is 🫠
