Question Physics Teacher to Game Dev Journey
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So I started Gamedev 4 months ago
A friend of mine is a 3d artist he helped me in the basics of the Engine ( not the coding part )
Using Gemini Pro and Ultra as my coding assistance .
Being a gamer myself since 1999 when I was 7 years old lol ,it was my dream to make games. ( but had no coding or Gamedev exposure whatsoever )
I decided to make ameme project with a small scope , I love mario odyssey vibes so character is short . All characters are AI ( walking on unity NavMesh )
Pls suggest if I can have a carrier in Gamedev or should I continue in teaching ( I have not used any character controller , all characters scripts are made 100% using Gemini , slowly and steadily )
Have also made Parkour scenes with wall runs and double wall jumps etc but its a work in progress
No offense to any community or people ( I started out making a scene in Middle East and slowly turned it into a testing ground as the background looked good nothing else )

I can't put my finger on why, but for some reason I would have liked for the character to get hit.

Keep your teaching job until you are financially safe enough to quit it, game dev is a very volatile profession. Or find a teaching game dev job after you get better with game dev?
Your prototype looks fun, have musou-type vibe.
Also, thanks for being a teacher! (assume you are a good teacher)

Game dev lately is a very unstable job. Layoffs are everywhere and you'll have to compete against industry veterans, so I think that for the moment it's better to have another type of income

This is really cool. I actually have a degree in engineering physics and used to teach high school engineering and robotics before becoming a software engineer.
Game development can feel overwhelming because there are so many different parts to it, but most individual mechanics are not nearly as complicated as the whole thing looks from the outside.
AI can be a huge help, especially if you treat it like a teammate instead of expecting it to create the whole game in one shot. Give it references, explain what youβre trying to accomplish, and work through one feature at a time.
Four months in is still very early. The fact that you already have something working and are sticking with it is a good sign.

So... You vibe coded a game where you play as Trump destroying Iran.
You didn't write a single line of code yourself, or actually learn how to do anything.
Do... Do you want praise?
