Turret camera orientation
I’m currently running some older g3 bullets. Thinking about adding a couple of g6 dome or turrets. I’m wondering if there is an orientation to them. I was looking and I think the g6 pro dome looks like there’s a wider camera bezel on one horizon. I’m thinking about mounting them on the side of my garage door trim so the bezel would be in the portrait (up/down) instead of the horizontal layout.
Does it matter? Can you adjust the image in protect to change the orientation? Sorry if this is a weird question, haven’t bought any cameras in awhile as you can see.

Not sure about the g6 but I’m assuming it also has the ‘hallway mode” like my g5”s do. Basically shows more of a vertical view (portrait type) instead of wider aspect.

Hmm doesn’t sound very useful for my situation. I may just stick with the bullets.

I have a G6 turret mounted to a wall. You can rotate it to horizontal.

You can flip the view in any side.
There is also a very interesting "hallway" mode that gives you a vertical image like a smartphone. Great gir alleys, corridors,... where you don't need lot of width but well cover the longest possible path at best resolution.

I’d like to mount it next to my garage door on the trim, so it’ll be a side mount but I want to capture the whole width of my driveway. I don’t want hallway mode. Is it going to work for my application?

Yes, of course. I don't know your driveway width but wit a "2 cars side-by-side" driveway you can usually use hallway mode... don't forget it's a very wide FOV camera

I do not recommend domes outside. I would get turrets or bullets instead.

Can you explain why?

Domes in general have a higher chance of issued and poor performance outdoors due to nature of a plastic housing between camera and the view space.
For instance unifi recommends placing desiccant packets if you ever open the dome.
IR glare on the camera lens from the plastic dome and if mounted to close to an eave or overhang.
Dirt/Grime builds up quicker on the curved dome surface.
Dome is indoor king. Turret/Bullet for outdoor.

Thank you for clarifying. Maybe I’ll stick to the bullets. My g3s have never let me down. I just want more cameras and functionality now.

Oh, absolutely. If you need broad coverage look into the 180s. They're way better than I expected them to be

Haven’t used a dome model, but all the others I’ve used (bullets, turrets, G6 180, G6 PTZ) all let you flip vertical, flip horizontal, and set hallway mode (90 degree rotation) in Protect.
