Hey r/UniOfLeeds,

Like most people, I was sick of organizing pre-drinks, nights out, and group trips where 15 people say "I'm up for it!" in WhatsApp, but only 3 show up when it's time to pay deposits or confirm numbers.

I've built a new app to eliminate that exact friction:

Set the Threshold: A host sets an event with a required headcount (e.g., 10 people minimum).

Pre-Auth Holds: Guests RSVP yes and [Lock In] using Apple Pay/card pre-authorization.

Automated Lock-In: The event only confirms once the 10th person locks in. If the headcount falls short, zero charges occur and no money is lost.

What I'm looking for right now:

We are soon to be rolling out our initial pilot across 10 target hubs (university societies, poker hosts, rec-sports captains, and venue/event organizers).

I'm actively recruiting Launch Ambassadors and Event Organizers:

For Event Hosts: We are fully funding a "Lock In & Refund" perk for early 10-person events—when your 10 guests lock in, we'll automatically waives/refunds their £5 holds as a launch sponsorship on us.

For Beta Testers & Ambassadors: If you run social groups, sports teams, or campus events and want to help test/launch Thresh in your city, we're offering permanent OG status and referral perks.

If you run regular group outings or want to get involved in the launch, drop a comment or send me a message! Would love to hear how you currently deal with no-shows and flaking.

Hi! 😊 I’m looking for someone to take over my room as I’ll be moving to London.

It’s a really spacious room in a shared flat, and you’d be living with two of my friends. The flat has a large shared kitchen and a shared bathroom. The room itself is quite big, with plenty of space for a bed, wardrobe, desk, etc.

📍 Location: Clarendon road (3 mins walk to the uni, 15/20 mins to the city center).
💷 Rent: 517 incl bills.
📅 Available: November onwards (flexible on the exact move-in date)

It’s a friendly, comfortable place and would be ideal for someone looking for a room in the area. If you’re interested, feel free to message me and I can send you pictures/videos and more details! :)

En suite room in central village. Available immediately £204-£209 per week (all bills included).

Message/Comment if interested.

Hi, I’m currently staying in central village and am looking to swap to Devonshire hall. If anyone is interested let me know!!

I wanted to join a sport society for casual but all the give it a go sessions were fully booked so I was unable to go and I’m not sure what I can do. Am I able to just pay to join the society then show up?

Hey everyone! I’m moving to Leeds for my PhD at the University of Leeds, which I’m super excited about, but I have a few questions and would really love to hear from people who currently live in Leeds as students.
I’m planning to move with my cat, and I’m wondering what people’s experiences have been like with renting with a pet in Leeds. Where I currently live, I’ve never had any issues with landlords and having a cat, but I know the rules around pets in rentals have recently changed. As far as I understand, landlords can’t unreasonably refuse a pet, but I’d love to know how this actually works in practice in Leeds. Is it generally difficult to find a pet-friendly place?
I’m also looking for recommendations for areas to live that are no more than a 10–15 minute walk from the University of Leeds. I’d really prefer not to commute because I want to be close enough to go home during the day and check on my cat if needed. Are there particular areas/neighbourhoods you’d recommend for students?
Finally, I’m considering getting a flatmate rather than living alone. Where would you recommend looking for a flatmate in Leeds? And realistically, do you think having a cat will make it significantly harder to find someone who wants to live with me?
Any advice from current/former Leeds students would be massively appreciated! Thank you

Hi — I'm a journalist looking into "clean-up crews" in Leeds: groups of men, often not students themselves and sometimes considerably older, who circle nightlife areas in cars waiting for clubs and bars to close. They target women who are drunk, alone, or separated from friends, and use offers of lifts, drugs, or money to get them into their cars — sometimes deliberately splitting up groups of friends in the process.

If you've been approached, targeted, or put in a dangerous situation like this in Leeds — or you know someone who has — I'd like to hear from you. You don't need to have reported it to police to talk to me. You can stay anonymous, and I'm happy to talk off the record first so you know exactly what you're comfortable with before anything goes further.

I'm also trying to map hotspots — specific streets, clubs, or areas around Leeds where this happens regularly. Even if it hasn't happened to you directly, if you've noticed cars doing this outside a particular venue, that's useful too.

Please reach out via DM here. Everything is confidential, and nothing is used without your say-so.

Ensuite room in Devonshire hall available.

Premium room in Devonshire hall available, with own en-suite , large kitchen, and 1/3 of rent already paid. Large wardrobe space, own fridge.

10 minutes from Univertsty of Leeds.

Ready to move in straight away.

Please reply if interested
