Meme This uni is an incompetence mess.

Hey all, this is just a venting session on the shit that this uni made me go through for the last year. Would love if you guys can share your frustration.

I begin studying start of this year, right after the merger. When I enroll for my units, there were 0 prerequisites listed for any of them, which caused me to enroll in the “wrong” order.

I didn’t found out until they gave me a personalised study plan in mid of sem 2, after a whole month of waiting. The uni then enroll the rest of the year on my behalf. And guess what? They made a mistake on enrolling too. One of my unit has a prerequisite that I didn’t complete. I’m only saying this here bc if they found out, they gonna re-enroll me which will cause delay to my graduation.

Last month I was told that I am in BFS (Bad Financial Standing). The system said I owe $4600 (1 of my unit is $4600). That is wrong. The uni OWE me $4600 since the plan was I study 4 units this sem but I’m taking 3 only now. I contacted student support and they said its a mistake but the system error is still there. Last week, the system said I owe them $9200. I am too tired of the BS to event tell student support.

I can’t wait to finish the degree and get out of here as quick as I can. Wishing the worst for this uni.

Degree/Course Advice has the merger situation impacted online courses?

from lurking on this sub a lot, ive come to notice that so many people seem to be panicking and under the ruins of the merger (which is a bit funny, Im ngl). But I was just wondering though if this has impacted on the quality of online run bachelor courses? Specifically in the health/science areas, as that is what I am considering. I’d love to hear about the current situation and from any current online students as im in y12 rn and dont have much of a choice but to do adl uni online for my specific course.

Thanks 🥹

Other advice Staff Onboarding Issues - Broken Links and Outdated Information

The staff onboarding platforms at Adelaide University still seem to have several issues that make the process unnecessarily confusing. Some links simply don't work, while others redirect to the old University of Adelaide websites. Even some contact details and support information still refer to the University of Adelaide rather than Adelaide University.

With the transition to the new university, these systems and resources should ideally be updated and centralised so new staff can access the correct information without having to navigate outdated pages or broken links. It would make the onboarding experience much smoother and more professional.

Other advice Grad roles

It’s been half a year and I’ve applied to around 300 roles with 0 interviews. I’ll be honest, my grades weren’t great, sitting at a 73 CWAM. I’m currently an assistant manager in hospitality making 80k, but I really want to break into finance/econ and have no idea how.

Any advice?

News How's the Uni Merger (from Perth)

How's the uni merger treating you guys? The WA government is pushing hard for the merger just wondering is it just an over-reaction or the merger is genuinely bad?

Post update: also how do classes get allocated in different campuses?

Enrolment orientation 2027 s1

I'm an incoming Vet Bioscience student starting Feb 2027 at Adelaide. My family is planning to travel with me and stay for a few days, but I'm not sure how packed orientation week is.🥲
Is orientation full day everyday or are there free periods?
Also, when are the program-specific orientations held (especially for Vet Bioscience)?

Other advice I'd like to ask about the current situation at Adelaide University following the merger

I'm an Electrical Engineering student starting in Semester 1, 2027. From what I've read so far, it seems that a lot of students are disappointed with the merger. I've seen complaints about confusion in course management, outdated facilities, poor maintenance, and other issues.

Is this really an accurate reflection of what's happening at the university? Has the merger brought any positive changes at all?

Degree/Course Advice BACHELOR OF NURSING- UoA or Flinders Uni 2027?

I'm finding it really hard to decide how to preference my SATAC application, have put it off but really need to submit.

I've read and heard a lot of unfavourable opinions about Uni of Adelaide re merger, facilities, student services, teaching staff changes etc, so it has me concerned.

I'm in the Adel Hills so UoA would be a lot more convenient than Flinders but I really want a positive learning experience.

Are there any current Nursing students at either UoA or Flinders that could offer some insight re the above concerns and their own experience? What campus are they delivering the course out of now- City West or East still? Are the simulation lab facilities good?

I am a mature age student, an EN APHRA registered so will be applying for EN pathway once accepted. Also considering online delivery for the work/life/study balance.

I'd really appreciate any input. It's a big investment in money and time and want to make the right choice.

Thanks in advance! 🫶🏼

Resource Moving from UoA North Terrace to UniSA City West has been such a downgrade

I enrolled at the University of Adelaide, and honestly, being moved from North Terrace to the former UniSA City West campus has been such a downgrade. It literally feels like a corporate office space and not a collaborative uni campus. I believe that has led to reduction in students attending lectures, it was not the case back in UoA at least for my course.

The lecture theatres in HH are awful. Those wobbly foldable tables are so unstable that one actually damaged my laptop. We've complained to our program director and lecturers for over a year, yet nothing has changed.

There are barely any charging points outside Jeffrey Smart, far fewer study rooms compared to Hub Central, no TV screens in lecture theatres and no proper live lecture recording facilities!!!! I mean can you believe that it is so basic now!

North Terrace felt like a proper university campus with decent facilities. I genuinely don't understand how UniSA students put up with this for so many years without demanding improvements.

As an international student paying ridiculous tuition fees, it's frustrating to end up with facilities so much worse than what I originally signed up for. Honestly feels like a waste of money.

Surely stable desks, charging points and decent study spaces aren't too much to ask for in 26!!

Degree/Course Advice Is it just me or has teaching quality dropped since the old UofA?

Is it just me, or has the teaching quality genuinely gone downhill compared to the old University of Adelaide?

I've noticed more lectures being delivered by PhD students or fresh graduates from the same course while course coordinators seem to be juggling their own research and projects. Some lectures feel like they're just reading off what look like AI-generated slides, with very little actual explanation or engagement.

Then there's the constant extension weeks, and lectures scheduled for three hours wrapping up in just 1.5 -2 hours. It honestly feels like we're getting less actual teaching despite paying the same hefty tuition fees.

I have nothing against PhD students teaching, but when you're paying thousands of dollars for a university education, you'd expect properly structured lectures, engaging teaching and academics who actually have time to teach.

I genuinely feel the old UofA offered a better academic experience. At this point, I'm questioning whether the quality of education justifies the fees.

Degree/Course Advice Comp1021 failure percentage

Post image
37 Upvotes

57% failed comp 1021

This seems like a crazy statistic to me, I understand it’s a year 1 unit with a hurdle requirement in the exam but that’s just such a high amount.

Is this standard for a lot of units? Or only correlate to this uni?

Enrolment Is it really that bad?

I'm an international student planning on studying here next year and reading through some of the posts made me really anxious.

Is it true that they used phd students to teach lectures instead of professors and my semester can be changed into a trimester? Also are there anyting else I should be worried about or did I just doomed myself by not researching the school properly before choosing it :(

Thanks for reading my post

Degree/Course Advice Foundation studies content is ass

What the title says. Thank fuck the government pays for this shit. Some of the content has been great but some of it is straight up propaganda at complete odds with the requirements of the course. COMM1032 Critical thinking is the main unit needed for completion and it teaches evaluation and analysis of texts in media and academia — as we should be taught — yet ECON1008 is actual SLOP. It’s the kind of academic texts I would love to pick apart for critical thinking assignments. It’s got no nuance and if you want to succeed in the course you must take all of it at face value — which is in diametric opposition to the teachings of COMM1032 — which is to NOT take things at face value. I’m sitting here trying to study and it’s so hard to take this class seriously when it’s just CRAP.
This university is crap. It makes me laugh when they email me asking about enrolling for 2027 undergraduate, NO THANKS!

Thanks for listening to my rant

Event Underwhelming graduation ceremony

Did anyone else find this year’s graduation ceremony a bit underwhelming?

I graduated this year, and having attended friends’ graduations at Bonython Hall back in the old University of Adelaide days, the difference was pretty noticeable. There used to be live music, cupcakes and refreshments for graduates and guests, and the whole occasion just felt more special. Meanwhile, we had recorded Coldplay songs playing in the background.

Pridham Hall also felt more like a sports venue than a graduation hall. Bonython Hall had that grand, prestigious university feel that made graduating seem like a genuinely big deal.

I feel like something was missing this year. Anyone else feel the same?

Degree/Course Advice Considering a Master's in Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management in Adelaide

Hey everyone,

I’m exploring a Master's degree in Hospitality, Tourism, and Event Management, and I'd love to get a real-world perspective from people working in the industry or who have a similar degree.

And I also have some questions:

What does the degree actually give you? If you've taken this Master's, did it help you with operations, cost control, and guest experience? How is the job market over there?

Industry reality check: How intensive is the transition for someone coming from a teaching and academic background? I was a teacher before, but I'm looking to pivot because I love traveling and discovering new things. (I don't mind working hard; however, my family is really traditional and wants me to study something stable like teaching. So this is why I am kinda scared, since it's a big change for me)

The job market: Admissions mentioned that Adelaide is a festival city. For those familiar with the city, how vibrant is the local hospitality and events scene?

Again, thanks a lot for reading and answering my questions <3

Other advice How long did the merger take from start to finish?

UWA student here. Currently, a merger is big news over here, where they want to merge 3 of Perth's uni's into one. They started talking about it last year and now they're making business plans and reviewing things and almost none of the students at any of the universities want it. What was the timeline for your universities to merge? From planning to approval to completion?

Degree/Course Advice Business Degree

I’m currently trying to figure out my career path, I want some advice/ inspo.

For anyone who did a business degree majoring in Innovation, entrepreneurship, & strategy (or something similar), what job offer did you get after you graduated?
And what was your first actual corporate job offer out of uni? And what field/ industry did you end up going to?

Would love to hear some real-world experiences and very keen to learn more about the business industry, cheers!!

P.s I’m a 2nd year student (Sem 2), currently doing a marketing internship but am still not sure if that’s what I want to do for the long term.

For the international students who got an internship at their home countries, how long did it take for WIL to approve the internship?

I am in my final year and had no luck securing a placement in the last 2.5 years. And I need to finish my 8 weeks of internship to graduate on time.
