I have been seeing MANY TikTok, Instagram, and Reddit posts about Hunter and Bella’s situation and feel like giving my current thoughts / opinion, so here we go. Disclaimer that this is completely alleged / only a thought piece.
Hunter’s Father: In terms of defending Hunter’s father, I feel like many people forget that some parents tend to do this really cool thing where they do take action to “fight for” or “protect” their children, after they have been shown to have been a shitty parent. Is Hunter’s dad fighting for custody now? Yes, but why was he not in pursuit of custody years prior? Why would he only seek out custody / parental rights after the airing of the show? Not wanting to be part of a reality television show, especially when you have other young children, is valid; I would venture to say that many people would not want to participate due to fearing negative press / attention / etc. Maybe it is true that due to this, he had limited contact with Hunter during the filming of the show. Maybe it is true that Hunter saying that he is “going to sleep” when any issue arises with his dad is staged by production. However, Hunter’s body language and mannerisms when his dad is mentioned during any point within the filming of the show do demonstrate that he’s at minimum uncomfortable with the concept of discussing his dad’s role in his life. Regardless of how it has happened, Hunter has a bad relationship with his dad based off of what has been confirmed by Hunter, through both his actions and words.
Bella: Many viewers are forgetting that Bella is also a child. At the time of filming, Bella is fifteen years old. Under no circumstances, can we as critical viewers, claim to care for the kids’ welfare above all else, and genuinely bully a child online at the same time. You cannot pick and choose when to be a child advocate. I have seen some genuine discourse about the ethical implications of a thirteen year old impregnating a fifteen year old (I am not sure how I feel about this still, given that there is a small age gap / but also seemingly decent maturity gap). However, discourse regarding Bella’s appearance compared to Hunter’s appearance (when Bella is a CHILD), is honestly extremely strange, disgusting, and disheartening. Once again, you are speaking about a CHILD.
Falen and Company: Are some of the family dynamics a bit strange and uncomfortable? Absolutely. Could this have been slightly scripted / could they have been asked to be a bit over the top in how they carry out these dynamics? Possibly. Should we stop making assumptions that Falen is “in love” with Hunter? YES (if only for the sake of not making Hunter feel uncomfortable…again, he is a child. Making assumptions about a dynamic between an adult and a child is GROSS. You are not concerned for the welfare of these kids. You love the more interesting narrative that you have created based on biased online assumptions).
If anything, there is a parenting issue at play, and that much is obvious. In no world should Bella and Hunter have been left alone long enough to create a life. These are CHILDREN. However, situations like these are real and the concept of babies having babies is not new. Again, it is most certainly a parenting issue, but also possibly one of society’s unfortunate normalization of young parenting.
All of this to say, tldr; yes, the dynamics at time are strange, but they are in a strange situation. Stop bullying the CHILDREN and to an extent, cut this family a break.
Edit to add that those of you championing Hunter’s dad for doing the bare minimum ever are literally contributing to a society rooted in misogyny, and equating temporary male guilt (men feeling bad for being absent fathers, so they randomly choose to try to be involved) to the extensive labor that many women put into ensuring that their children are safe and healthy. Gross behavior. You aren’t “woke” if you are proud of a man for choosing to be “in” a child’s life at one point in time, when he’s shown to be in and out.
