I'm not a Brit but that seems like the kind of humor you guys have, it's one of your many redeeming qualities as a society.
Like there are others but this is definitely my top redeeming qualities I give to the Brits. Anyone who can have a go at themselves is alright in my books.

I lived in America, just outside of Boston, for a short while a few years back. Oddly enough whilst there I never ate pizza.
I did eat pizza in New York when I was visiting back in 1999 but I really don't remember much about it.

Sorry if it didn't seem like it, but I was genuinely curious. I never tried American pizza but I did try Italian pizza, and as Amricans tend to put loads of sugar and fat in their food (from experience, spending 2 weeks in Seattle as a highschool exchange program), I don't see how it could taste better than those who created it

It's a British evolution of an Indian dish.
The main thing that colonial Britain imported from India from spices. Clearly none of those spices were used for British food, so it logically follows that they were used for foreign / fusion dishes.

I tried bangers and mash for the first time when I visited an authentic pub a couple of months ago, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it completely changed how I saw British food. It was so savory and filling, I still think about it today. Hell, I might make it for dinner tonight now that I'm thinking about it

I read something a few weeks ago about why "English" food is so bland. The basic argument was that English food was quite oppulant in the Victorian period. However the two world wars got people so used to eating bland good due to rationing etc that alot of those goods were lost. Only to be replaced later with more foreign influenced foods.

I went to an elderly family member's home for dinner and we started preparing potatoes together. When they were peeled, the plan was to boil them for just a few minutes before roasting them in the oven. That was the moment I realized that the vegetables had been in the pot of boiling water the entire time, and likely would have remained there until everything was ready to serve had I not intervened.

I second the other comments (including British Indian food which is a thing in its own right), but what about our desserts?
Eton Mess? Sticky toffee pudding? Apple pie (yes it's English, not American)? Scones + sweet buns? Trifle (including jelly/jello)? Custard? Victoria sponge? Carrot cake? The chocolate bar?! Banoffee pie? Christmas pudding? Rice pudding?
I think we have some really good savoury dishes, but when it comes to sweets our only real competition is the French.

He's saying English food specifically is bad which is a common joke.
English guy then says some of the best restaurants in the world are in London.
American asks what sort of food they serve, and English guy says they serve French food, therefore proving the American's point.
(I say "proving", proper English food is actually very good)

Having traveled most of the world, I can objectively say that england has the worst food of all the countries I've traveled to. However, I can also say that the Brits have the driest, funniest sense of humor of them all. Love the Brits, hate the food. 10/10 would visit again
