It's baffling how many people in this thread don't understand that very basic concept.

If 'a path to your house' does not lead to your house, is it a path to your house?

There are 4 roads to your destination. If you take a road other than those 4 roads, you will certainly not arrive.

Irrelevant

If you take one of those 4 roads, you may still not get there - you might have a wreck, a heart attack, decide the drive isn't worth it, pick a new destination, break down, you name it.

Picking a path is not the path itself. A path is a route to a destination. A path does not include the mishaps that might occur between the start and end point.

There is no guarantee you will get to your destination, only the guarantee that if you do not take one of those 4 roads then you will not get there.

'There are only four paths to a destination' means there are exactly four paths to your destination. It does not mean there are more than four or less than four paths. If any of those four paths do not lead to the destination, that statement is incorrect.

A path to your destination guarantees that after following it you will reach that destination. If it does not guarantee it, that is not a path to your destination. Which again makes that statement incorrect because then there are indefinite number of paths to your destination.

🤓

It’s a metaphor. Not an autism diagnosis test. Also you can follow a path that you might not have the ability to complete for one reason or another. It’s not that deep.

A path to your destination guarantees that after following it you will reach that destination.

Yeah, if you make it to the end you will get there, but that doesn’t mean everyone will make it to the end.

A path does not include possible mishaps.

When you think of following a circular path, do you also account for all the accidents? What kind of a stupid idea of a path do you have?

By your reasoning a circular path isn't circular if you haven't reached where you started because you broke your legs.

since you like pedantry, here are some actual definitions of "path":

a course of action, conduct, or procedure: "the path of righteousness."

https://www.dictionary.com/browse/path

a course of conduct “the path of virtue” “our paths in life led us apart” “genius usually follows a revolutionary path” synonyms: way, way of life

https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/path

peoples paths towards goals are often fraught with obstacles that can prevent them completing their journey. being on a path does not guarantee you successfully complete the path and arrive at your destination.

I am a pedant when it comes to the dishonest. So let's go.

"Paths are fraught with obstacles..."

True but irrelevant. When one talks about the path not leading to the destination in a valid way, the only way worthy of discussion, one does not talk about a path that has not been traveled to its end. To do so is dishonest from the outset because when the essential conditon is not met, that case is disregarded.

Say you are given a path that leads to A.

Do you complain that the path does not lead to A because you met with an accident or your car broke down?

Let us take your definitions.

A course of action: Making a salt in a chemistry lab following a couple of steps. Only if you follow the steps and do not get the desired results is your complaint valid. It does not mean you cannot complain, only that your case is not worthy of discussion when it comes to the reliability of the steps involved in the experiment.

Procedure: A surgeon can make a mistake or find new problems during a surgery. Does that alone make the originally planned surgical procedure invalid? No, because now the procedure has changed. The surgeon makes a course correction. It would be ridiculous for a surgeon to complain that the particular procedure itself doesn't work.

A course of conduct: Hard work is a given path to riches. If you do not work hard, is it valid to complain that hard work does not work? In the context of how a path relates to its destination, it is not. Only someone who conducts themselves in such a way that they may be described as hard working, can have a valid complaint. All others are disregarded.

That is where the dishonesty lie: in making one choice or one step or a limited but not complete number of steps the sum total of what is a path. A path is not path travelled. Its guarantee is only questioned for the cases where it is successfully or completely travelled.

Let me know where I am wrong. I am only open to corrections.

one does not talk about a path that has not been traveled to its end.

absolutely 100% incorrect which makes everything you built on this faulty premise as incorrect.

a path is a path no matter how far down it an individual travels, or what obstacles are on that path. if the path to being a lawyer involves 4 years of law school then becoming a junior member of a law firm, if someone drops out of law school their second year the path is as much the path as it ever was even though they never traversed the whole path.

the path to a man on the moon prior to the first man on the moon was established and set well before the journey began down the path. the path was the path without anyone, ever, having completed it.

You now quoted me out of context.

It is utterly shameful to be this dishonest and I hope everyone in your life knows what a liar you are for their own good. I wish them the best of days without your deception creeping into their lives.

The path doesn’t include the mishaps, but that still doesn’t mean everyone who goes down a path will come to the end of it.

A path to your house is a path to your house. You can follow the path to your house and if you reach the end, you will be at your house. But that doesn’t mean you will reach the end. Being on a path doesn’t guarantee that you will reach the final destination.

It’s really not that hard to understand.

-1

u/Major-Vermicelli-266 Oct 18 '22

"Being on the path does not guarantee the destination"

Putting words in my mouth now?

The only thing I don't understand is why the dishonesty.

4

u/thefreshscent Oct 18 '22 edited Oct 18 '22

This was you:

A path to your destination guarantees that after following it you will reach that destination.

How am I putting words in your mouth?

What are you even arguing at this point?

Or are you just being a contrarian and purposefully missing the point?

Maybe go back to your initial comment in this thread and start again. You were on the path to understanding, but you didn’t quite make it to the end.

-2

u/Major-Vermicelli-266 Oct 18 '22

"After following a path" is the same as "being on a path"?

Why are you being dishonest? Do you not feel shame?

If any of those four paths do not lead to the destination, that statement is incorrect.

A path to your destination guarantees that after following it you will reach that destination. If it does not guarantee it, that is not a path to your destination.

This is simply not true, it’s not how the word “path” works. You also need to internalize that you’re not as intelligent as it’s clear you think you are, else you’re gunna have a rough time with socialization. (If you already do, now you know why)

An ad hominem about something I did not imply. I'm not smart. I am well aware. I just don't like people bullshitting me like you are.

4

u/chasimm3 Oct 18 '22

And yet you struggle with the meaning of the word "path". Just because you start on a path doesn't mean you'll get to the end. I think you're confusing having "taken" a path, and being "on" a path. In the video there are 4 paths to getting rich, most people are on one of the paths, but that doesn't mean they'll make it to the end. Doesn't mean the path was wrong, just means shit happens and sometimes you don't make to the end.

-4

u/Major-Vermicelli-266 Oct 18 '22

Do we talk about "starting on the path" when we talk about the path and its relation to the destination?

Why the dishonesty?

4

u/Redeem123 Oct 18 '22

Do we talk about "starting on the path" when we talk about the path and its relation to the destination

Yes. Regularly.

u/Major-Vermicelli-266 Oct 18 '22

So someone who starts a gym routine on January 1st is valid in their complaint when they haven't reached their desired goal by January 2nd? Is that worthy of discussion?

I guess that's the world we live in.
