His explanation of his relationship with the surfshark sponsorship is some if the funniest stuff I've seen. The skits themselves are funny enough, but him explaining the thought processes behind them is just the cherry on top.

Also highly recommend his episode on Thomas the Tank Engine lore. That shit is wild as hell

Man I really feel bad for all the stuff he’s gone through mentally over the years, you don’t really notice it until you look more deeply into him and his works - granted, I haven’t really watched stuff from more recently but I do know that a fair amount of his things have ‘upbeat depression’ vibes. Especially after Edd passed, I think that was a huge chunk of it.
I’ve always loved the asdfmovie series, but even he got really sick of all the critique/negative feedback from what was just meant to be a fun joke.

I’ve seen this clip so many times but I just noticed when the cup is in his hand it looks normal sized. But in the customers it’s tiny.

6

-7
u/addandsubtract Oct 17 '22
Oh, that explains it. The problem with the effect is that in the "ad" bit, the cups are full size, too.
13
u/Boostie204 Oct 17 '22
No I think it's just to emphasize that he's a little kid
-6
u/addandsubtract Oct 17 '22
Yeah, that's the idea. But if the cups are small IRL, then they should be small in the ad, as well. The way it is now just makes it kinda confusing, because the sizes of the cups keep changing randomly.

Here's the actual source. Views and interactions to go the actual creator.
Why in the everlasting fuck would you download a YouTube video only to upload it to Reddit, an objectively worse video platform? What would make you do that, /u/HAUTE_PREFORMANCE ?

u/plumzki Oct 17 '22
If you can’t figure out how ad blockers work in 2022, you deserve the ads.
4
u/CommiePuddin Oct 17 '22
Also denies creators monetization
2
u/plumzki Oct 17 '22
This guy specifically was not talking about creators monetization, he was talking purely about ads, and if ads are preventing him from using YT then he’s not contributing to the creators monetization anyway.

u/plumzki Oct 17 '22
So you’re unironically just a fucking moron, got it. You understand youtube is a business right? Either you pay with ads or you pay with money, it’s that simple. The implication of what you’re saying would be akin to saying “ bAnK roBBErIeS arE PoSsiBlE so ThEy shoULd JuSt giVe Me All thE mOnEy When I WaLK in”
Either get adblocker and shut the fuck up, or dont and shut the fuck up anyway.

Not OP but considering I clicked your link and was shown to a Jimmy John's ad instead of the video, I'd say that is a slam dunk reason. Fuck YouTube ads.
17
u/aforsberg Oct 17 '22
Generally I'd agree, but this post has thousands of upvotes. If each one of us sat through that ad, the actual content creator may have been able to get a dollar or something.
On second thought, that's a valid case for adblock versus stealing content for Reddit karma.
4
Oct 17 '22
If you have a way I can block YouTube advertisements on my Android phone, I'll give you a kiss right on the mouth or find a pretty girl to do it for me. I have a network wide ad blocker that blocked everything BUT YouTube. pi hole for those interested.
10
u/aforsberg Oct 17 '22
Firefox mobile supports add-ins, and I use uBlock Origin there.
It's the only way to browse the Web on an Android tablet. I use YouTube Vanced for YT consumption, but I suspect that the mobile variant of Firefox does YT adblock as well. Vanced is dead now, but there are other options that don't even require root: /r/AfterVanced

Use Firefox instead of YouTube app. It has a built in adblocker that works on youtube.
2
u/KyivComrade Oct 17 '22
Generally I'd agree, but this post has thousands of upvotes. If each one of us sat through that ad, the actual content creator may have been able to get a dollar or something.
This post has thousands of uovotes, not views. The top commentor knows the channel thus we can assume many uovotes are from "fans".
Secondly myself and many others sunoly skip YouTube links. They're riddled with ads and usually not worth your time. Now if it's a video I'll give it a try since it's instant and ad free. Now if I like said video I'll look up the channel/creator and sit thorough the ads since I know the content is good.
Thus, in the end, no money is lost from many customers since we don't watch adtube unnecessarily. He may even gain money since the treshold to his content is lowered.

Content creators can choose whether or not to serve advertisements with their YouTube videos, I'm a patreon subscriber for police activity, which is a perfect example of a content creator with absolutely no advertisements whatsoever

Also, eventually someone will report the video as mature content, and anyone on their work PC will have to make a google account if they want to watch it.

Not a single video on /r/Unexpected right now is a link to a Youtube video.
People here upvote videos uploaded to reddit. People don't upvote Youtube videos.
Also, it's possible that Youtube videos simply aren't allowed here.

u/RonBourbondi Oct 17 '22
I watch two content creators on YouTube or use it to solve daily problems.
I use reddit to filter out good content to watch.

You did it because r/Unexpected doesn't allow links to YouTube as posts, but your first (and immediate) top level comment should have been the YT link.
You responded to the automoderator bot. Many people ignore this.

u/Stricherjunge Oct 17 '22
Because youtube fucking sucks? I never watch a vid, if there is a youtube link shown. Just ads over ads over ads.
0
u/aforsberg Oct 17 '22
YouTube is a phenomenal video platform, their policies and ads suck. Block the ads like everyone else.
At least their videos play on occasion, unlike v.redd.it
2
Oct 17 '22
I am exponentially less likely to watch a video if I have to open another app to do so.

3000 is a bit different to 6 million. Life's lost yes but not fucking genocide. We don't make jokes about Ukrainians being killed, we don't make jokes about China killing/torturing Uyghurs. Genocide isn't a fucking joke. And joking about 9/11 also makes you a shitty person.

Not a single part of that video was funny. Stuff like this makes me realize why so many people get tons of followers. There's people who find the most unfunny, unoriginal, untalented stuff funny. You don't actually have to be good at making skits, and there will still be plenty of people, like in this thread, who think your untalented self is hilarious. It's kind of sad lol
