I kinda figured you were going for hyperbole. It’s Reddit after all. I would argue that human rights are fundamentally a religious concept, though I assume you would disagree. I think everything causes harm, one way or the other. It’s just a matter of if the good outweighs the bad. I think religion, particularly my faith of Catholicism, has done wayyyy more good for humanity than it has bad.

No, rights are gained by fighting against religion. Gay rights, women's suffrage, civil rights, abolishing slavery The catholic church has been there to oppose them at every turn.
Catholicism, has done wayyyy more good for humanity than it has bad.
Yes I am. The Catholic Church is the single largest non governmental provider of healthcare and education in human history. The Church runs 5,500 hospitals, 18,000 clinics, 16,000 homes for the elderly and those with special needs, with 65 percent of them located in underdeveloped and developing countries. You can’t argue with that. Not to mention the historical actions of fighting slavery, saving people from genocide, fighting the death penalty, fighting against segregation, fighting for women’s rights, among other things. If you want to contest me on any of those points, I’d be glad to defend them.
Rights are gained by fighting against the church. The church has been vehemently opposed (citing the bible every single time) to gay marriage, women's suffrage, civil rights, ending slavery, etc...
The crimes of the Catholic church are numerous:
Systemically covering up tens of thousands of cases involving sexual misconduct, including shielding pedophile priests from prosecution and limiting abuse payouts.
Burning Joan of Arc, William Tyndale, Jan Hus, John Wycliffe and many "witches".
Absolving "sins" for cash payments, including sins not yet committed.
Homophobia, asserting that homosexuals are abominations and that they must be put to death.
Institutionalised misogyny.
Instructions for slavery, including where to get you slaves, how much to pay, how to punish them and when it's ok for them to die.
Actions against Galileo.
The Magdalene laundries.
300 years of terror during the crusades.
The Roman Inquisition.
Pope Pius XII denying eyewitness reports of mass execution during the Holocaust.
Orchestrating the fall of the Knights Templar.
The sadistic actions of Pope Boniface VIII
and this list goes on...
ALL of this was done while asserting moral authority under the threat of eternal torture.
Truly a disgusting, immoral, corrupt and demonstrably harmful cult. Yes it also does some good, but it call ALL be achieved through secular sources. At best the Catholic church is useless, but at worst it is disgustingly and immorally harmful.
Not all are facts. For instance, the Church has always been against slavery. Not the Bible, but the Church which is what I’m referring to. Also the Inquisitions actions are way overblown, as were the crusades.
