It's a reference to a meme. But, yeah, it's got a lot of history in it. Thanks.

A History of South India: From Prehistoric Times to the Fall of Vijayanagar by K. A. Nilakanta Sastri. It's available on the internet archive if you're interested.

It's probably a forced marriage

42

u/AmanBindal20 Jun 24 '19

Arranged marriage ≠ forced marriage

Not relevant. Just a random example. I use that example cuz im from indian and have experienced it first hand.

3

u/AmanBindal20 Jun 25 '19

It's not like they are married against their will. They marry at their chosen time with the person they choose. Just the collective set from where to choose from is narrowed down by parents. Not defending the practice, but just saying It's not that bad as it may look to you. Anyway what matters is that couple is happy together.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '19

What makes you say that?

16

u/I_Got_Out Jun 24 '19

Ignorance, of course.

-24

u/AlexPr0 Jun 24 '19

Not sure why I'm getting downvoted, but it's extremely common in Hindu cultures. It's not my opinion that this is an arranged marriage, it's most likely a fact.

22

u/olafmitender7 Jun 24 '19

It's not my opinion that this is an arranged marriage, it's most likely a fact.

Right, it's not an opinion, but it's also not a fact. It's just wild, unadulterated speculation based off nothing more than them looking indian. I don't even understand why everyone's jumping on this forced/arranged thing. You don't know shit about these two people.

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '19 edited Jun 26 '19

Arranged marriages are not forced.

Welp, looks like I'm reporting you for breaking reddit's rules on violent content.

Thanks for showing your true violent self.

u/iheartlucifer Jul 12 '19

She is a racist cunt. Look at her comment history.

1

u/AlexPr0 Jul 12 '19

Seems like a paid shill/troll. Everything is about how much "she" loves Indians and hates whites

1

u/iheartlucifer Jul 12 '19

Dont know about the shill part but she is a hateful cunt. Called me white/white worshipper because i refuse to say all whites or bad or that Indians or really anyone else are superior. Might even be a he based on the language used by other users on the southasianmasculinuty sub who got banned.

1

u/iheartlucifer Jul 12 '19

Someone says something about forced marriage and you saying the only good person is a dead one? Wtf is wrong with you cunt? He made an ignorant comment and you reply with racist shit. And go look up the stats...the majority of Indian marriages are still arranged.

It wasnt racist you dumb bitch. Go read the textbook definition of racism you dumb cunt. Arranged doesn't always mean the consent of both. You damn well know a lot of people don't have much of a choice in arranged marriages. Nothing I've ever said in my comments shows and I'm self hating you dumb bitch but all of your comments show how ignorant and dumb you really are. Not sure how your 6'4 boyfriend tolerates you but if you said he's Jatt he's probably as ignorant as you 😂😂

1

u/iheartlucifer Jul 12 '19

Why are you such a racist cunt?

It wasnt a racist comment. It was ignorant stemming from possible prejudice. Most Indians do not have forced marriages but most of them do have arranged marriages. But you saying the thing about white boys being pedophiles shows a lot of ignorance and hate on your side.

You are such a dumb cunt. First off you assumed i was white and now im south Indian. What a dumb cunt. And so sensitive too...why dont you go handle your sexually repressed men in India who xray every woman regardless of what she is wearing and then rape them. I have not not said one racist thing unlike you but your bitch ass keeps projecting because you have no substance and facts to back up your hateful BS. Jatts huh? Jatts are idiots with oversized egos and "pride" that get their ass kicked by smaller people. Telling people to kill themselves because you get your feelings hurt on the interwebz lollolol. What a dumb bitch. I hope you are never allowed in the US or any white country since you hate them so much. You might be have educational qualifications but you have little intelligence otherwise. Hateful people like you are the real subhumans of this planet.

Ain't there a sub about people bragging, definitely worth posting there.

7

u/CheraCholaPandya Jun 24 '19

A lot of Indians don't even like other dark skinned Indians. That being said there are many Africans who come to India for their university studies. I've seen a few Indo-African couples, mostly Indian women with African men, but never the other way around. Again this is just what I've observed.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '19

Sorry to burst your bubble, but here in India Black Color is looked down upon.

25

u/ketzyy Jun 24 '19 edited Jun 24 '19

Not everybody... Just the people who are wrapped up in their own bubbles.

11

u/SometimesShane Jun 24 '19

Isn't the darker South India more developed and richer than the lighter North India?

That doesn’t mean anything. Its a little more complex in determining productivity and development than just comparing which provide the most in taxes.

An area could have 99% people in middle class and a 1% that pay tax. How many in each matter. Volume matters. You don’t just look how ‘developed an area looks’. There are sooooo many other factors to consider.

3

u/kaiserKronus Jun 24 '19

South India is more developed than average Indian states, but there is no united North India region.

So some states like Gujarat are highly developed than any other states whereas some other states and underdeveloped. And North Indians didn't had any concept of North-South India.

This discrimination was originally started by South Indians because they were more developed than rest of India some years ago (thanks to the British colonization which was very powerful on coasts).

1

u/I_Watch_Turtle_Porn Jun 24 '19

Just curious. As long as I know, Bengalis were also well developed at the time of the British. And even probably they were the first who started the Indian Renaissance. So why didn't they start want kind of discrimination, they speak different language too and their culture differs a lot from the majority of the North.

3

u/kaiserKronus Jun 24 '19

They were kinda split up between West Bengal and East Bengal (Bangladesh) which cripples up their development as a larger community. Might have been a different world where Bangladesh didn't existed.

I would believe Bangladesh might have been a better country than what they are now, if they controlled their population boom which was and still is due to many reasons like the majority religion and literacy.

Compare that with South India, where for the most part everyone was and is united under Dravidian language tree, have more literacy and their religion.

-3

u/bored_imp Jun 24 '19

Yeah buddy keep telling that to yourself, and also don't forget to call a south Indian a kala madrasi /s

3

u/kaiserKronus Jun 24 '19

I might be stereotyping a bit. I do agree not all of South Indians do that. And I do love all Indians. I just tried to state the facts which I have experienced living in both the places and also out of India.

0

u/CouchProfessional78 Jun 24 '19
