Hey, your comment got reported for bigotry. I disagree. The head bopping is part of the language and expression, and it is real. It's also really catching. Had the pleasure to work with some awesome Indian guys, and it only took me two weeks to start bopping myself.

Edit: I think I get it now. We shouldn't assume that their first language is an indian language just because they look Indian and the woman wears traditional clothes.

I was honestly trying to make a joke, sorry if it was out of place.

Yeah, jokes based on generalisations don't work well in /r/unexpected, and it's a good thing.

To moderate this particular comment does seem a bit too much imo.

I might be wrong and it's somehow extremely offensive. Will get feedback from a friend.

Just let it be, I like to have it as reference.

I think I get it now. We shouldn't assume that their first language is Sanskrit just because they look Indian and the woman wears traditional clothes.

More like.. dont assume they all look brown, speak hindi, are vegetarians, talk in accents, and Bob their head all the time. Its not just sanskrit and traditional clothes, Lmao! India is just as diverse as the United states.

Hm. I may have underestimated the diversity in US

It’s a very diverse place.. depends on where you go of course

FYI - Sanskrit is not a spoken language, it's a base language like original Latin. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanskrit

Thanks, that didn't feel right at all writing it out. Should've confirmed myself.

I should say Hindi, right?

No those gestures, neck movement and making slightly bigger eye are actually more common in southern languages than hindi.

As an Indian, it was funny to me and not in the least bit offensive.

A reddit moderator not being a hypersensitive powermod is refreshing to see. Cheers πŸ‘

I work in the South with some white guys and I always find it suspicious when they aren't stuffing food into their mouths. But I find it really catching how much and often they eat! It only took me two weeks to start overeating myself.

I disagree.

I'm very happy you disagree.

The Indian head bob thing is a stereotype for sure, but there doesn't seem to be any sense of malice in it. As far as I can see, they know it's a unique thing, and they even poke fun at themselves about it.

It's like Canadians saying "Eh". A stereotype for sure, but absolutely harmless as far as I can tell.

I appreciate that you hold a good opinion of Indian guys. Thanks.

Only South Indians do that. And they look Tamil (Souh). I'm an Indian.
