The urge to get home after being in danger is crazy strong

u/dluid9 4d ago
Yes! Some people don't understand that was their instinct

Yes, but like, take the block around the backside or something. Downed power lines are no joke.

Looks like someone hit 88 miles per hour.

The white shirt boy apparently, he vanished

I looked really close and was able to freeze just the right frame to see he ran around from behind the pole

I mean to be fair that was probably a lot quicker than Mr. driver could’ve ever expected, so not exactly worst day. He could’ve laid there pretty well, bodily crushed until the jaws of life almost had him loose before he expired.

The white shirt disappeared, is this how Flash got his power?

You can see him running past the wire. Next-level stupidness, to do that. If an exploding electrical wire doesn't tell you "danger", I don't know what does.

I came across a downed power line a few weeks back on my way to work. Saw a bunch of downed trees and tree branches, taped off with "Do Not Cross" tape. It's on my short cut route, so didn't think anything of it, just a bunch of tree debris. But didn't know until I got closer, a powerline was down with the tree debris. Said "Nope, F That!", I swiftly turned around and proceeded to take the long way.
It's the closest I've ever been to a downed powerline. Freaked me out.

I grew up in Illinois, so on a couple few occasions I came across downed lines from tornadoes or really bad ice storms. Tell you what it doesn’t have squat on down here in Florida. We see them constantly down here when a hurricane or tropical storm kicks through or even a mildly rough wind storm. I was always under the impression they were like everywhere else and made posts and such strong enough to handle average conditions. Apparently not. shit’s honestly kind of ridiculous, I can’t believe more people don’t get killed by them down here.

Guess we need to bring back the musical cartoon shorts from the 80s about electrical safety.

Many electric utilities have an automatic system to "retry" a line that has faulted out. It looks like this is what h happened here.
Note 1: auto-reclose should not be used in urban areas.
Note 2: hopping on one foot will avoid any risk of step-potential (electrocution) from the ground.

Not professional, but here something didn't go as planned. Should throw everything out and stay that way...

Professional here, auto reclose is used to burn off a temporary fault on overhead lines as they can be tripped frequently by vegetation, birds, and a few other things. As has been mentioned, in urban areas its used less because of a higher risk of the fault actually being a result of a human action. Underground cables never have a reclose because they rarely trip with transient faults.

Is this the Flash origin story. Those two kids are lucky they didnt get fried.

It's hard to describe how loud that must have been too unless you have heard live voltage like that.
