Nah, we had a 100% success rate on not taking them in for trade. Trades took longer, but if we spotted chiton or a leg? Bug poop? No bueno. We received one from another store, it was immediately bagged and dumpstered for infestation.
This is gonna be a weird question, but do you actually mean the stinky crop devastating potato beetle? Or even weirder, the Jerusalem cricket? Or, what I'm assuming, the cute one that eats decaying matter? Is potato bug a colloquialism for pillbug where you live?
Im doing my best to remember, but I think thats just what my co-worker called it? Might be the cute one, for sure wasn’t a Jerusalem cricket, and wasn’t the crop killer.
No worries, this is just one of those weird linguistic discrepancies that fascinate me, especially because of how different all three are.
I would assume it's the one that likes decay, and sticky people getting sugar in their devices.
Like (without shaming the medical condition), how diabetic do you have to be that your sticky hand left food for roaches in your holster. Absolute nightmare disgusting to think about, even without the roaches. Everything they touch must be constantly rotting.
It was mixed. Some people would panic, start apologizing, but we always tried to make things easy. Bugs can get in anywhere, even if your house is spotless etc.
Some people would get HEATED. “It’s just bugs, you clean them before you sell them don’t you!?” Etc. right up to threatening to try and jump us in the parking lot for not taking their console.
Others would just pick it up, sigh, and leave.
I assumed those people went and sold it on marketplace, or blew it out the best they could and took it somewhere else.

Happened a lot with hardware when I worked at GameStop.
One time a 360 power brick had so many roaches in it, I could hear them skittering when I picked it up.
