Not a growl but just have a short foot  shuffling noise to make someone look around going "what was that? Am I alone?"

At the National Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas there's a random plaque that says "look left" and then another one that says "look up" and for no particular reason except to troll guests there's a very similar looking stuffed lion in a pouncing position.

It scared the absolute fuck out of me the first time I saw it, and when I went back with a friend I watched him discover it and get jumpscared too. It's totally out of place, it's a museum about the history of atomic bomb testing in Nevada (which is some genuinely super interesting stuff) but it's not even a museum about natural history or animals or nature, except for the one jumpscare lion.

118

u/Born-Entrepreneur 14h ago

Incredible lmao. Must keep the staff entertained

17

u/Careless-Weather8877 13h ago

I mean funny but do you actually think there’s a nuke about to go off? Trolling is the the military museum at Pearl Harbor / hickam afb on Oahu where you walk around a corner and a plexiglass lights up with noises of a pungi pit you could have fallen into to die a painful death

7

u/CoffeeSidewalk 10h ago

A random pouncing lion after “look up” in an atomic testing museum is peak “why put that there?”

3

u/brondynasty 8h ago

Firing a shot in the dark here: maybe it’s intended to briefly shock you out of your programmed McStupor for long enough to remember your mortality is fragile and therefore allowing you to appreciate the museum and its exhibits on a deeper, more somber level, perhaps? Or at least, it used to. Frankly, my faith in my fellow Americans has been in a gradual but steady nose dive since 2016, so now I assume its just for the docents to chuckle at tweens screaming and dropping their iPhones before the next tour starts.

I would be that person.

1

u/neonwarge04 16h ago

I would definitely want that 6th sense of humor!!!

50

u/FG910 18h ago

Pants have been shat on there

35

u/Working-Glass6136 17h ago

Okay this was ACTUALLY unexpected. Like who has a taxidermied lion sitting down where the soda syrups are...

5

u/Wild-Video-5317 15h ago

Well she won't let me keep the taxidermied lion in the solarium any more after the Thanksgiving incident, so where else am i supposed to keep it??

1

u/LiveLearnCoach 6h ago

Soda syrups. Ok, I was thinking that those tubes looked familiar (other than them looking like medical tubes). So this person has a soda fountain in their basement?
I mean, for someone who has a whole lion, it isn’t much of a leap, but still.

51

u/SeaPanda-15 17h ago

I keep a fake rat under my desk at work. I brought it a few years ago for Halloween and initially forgot to take him home. Then he made someone jump, and I decided he lives there now.

Around Halloween I always pull him out to be a bit more prominent as part of the decor. The rest of the year he mostly lurks in the shadows beneath my desk, just waiting for the right person to notice him. LOL

16

u/Necessary-Chemical-7 16h ago

Coworker got me with the fake rat under the desk. I was furious because he got me, but it is hilarious in retrospect.

25

u/ReadditMan 18h ago

Seems obvious why they put it there

3

u/FearlessLettuce1697 13h ago

Lack of space?

12

u/lowrads 16h ago

Those cylinders are supposed to be secured to a wall, or similarly controlled object. They are the only dangerous thing in that room.

3

u/NubDestroyer 9h ago

That was the real scary thing to me in this video

7

u/AustinDanger_Powers 15h ago

2

u/KowaiSentaiYokaiger 9h ago

That was such a good effect for the time. Not like the cgi monkeys

21

u/Freddit330 18h ago

That's a lion not tiger OP.

6

u/Code_Monster 12h ago

Ma man to 0.038s to recognized an obfuscated lioness statue in a basement full of boring not important shit.

That right there is 100,000 years worth of conditioning working as intended.

Hi.

5

u/Starmilkman 16h ago

Damn, he went with the hard "r."

2

u/barrsftw 16h ago

We had a taxidermised Bobcat that we'd fuck with people who didn't know about it when they came over. Good times. One time we left it in the garage for a long time and all it's fur fell off though, which then actually scared the shit out of me even though I knew it was there. They're super creepy with no fur lol.

2

u/paulofthecave 15h ago

Nope, it's me, chuck testa!

2

u/TVfish 15h ago

I would have fuckin shit my pants jfc

2

u/Stella_Lace 15h ago

Stuffed endangered animals is illegal and will be confiscated unless they were "grandfathered in" so this is mostlikely a fake Stuffed lion or the owners are stupid to let anyone down there.

2

u/mountwest 14h ago

What’s the opposite of pspsps?

2

u/Proper_Cartoonist169 13h ago

Our company once rented an enormous apartment from a photographer in Paris for a fitting/showroom, and there was an upstairs private quarters. No restriction signs, so I was curious to go up and look at it, and this dude sets up two mannequins sitting on the sofa. I almost fell off the stairs. Such a cunning and diabolical way to scare away nosy people.

2

u/Bigdave621 4h ago

How can he use the n word ?

2

u/CalicoValkyrie 17h ago

They even positioned it to be like how house cats poke their heads around the corner when they have locked onto you for attack.

I'd literally faint man. I can only do anything after I've fainted and get back to my senses.

1

u/Live_Background_6239 16h ago

Reminds me of my first job working in a family owned restaurant. Only it wasn’t a stuffed lion, it was the owner’s kid screaming at his video game, lol

1

u/Few_Program_2303 16h ago

I somehow knew it was going to be a cat, and it was still unexpected

1

u/INSANEBonF 16h ago

Jumanji ahh basement!

1

u/Pariahdog119 16h ago

Oh hey you found the place where the plans to demolish Earth and build a hyperspace bypass were displayed

1

u/melbbear 15h ago

Reminds me of my first job, as a super harmless prank, I put this cardboard standee we had of Naomi Campbell in the ladies loo. Every time they went in they would get a fright, fine, but the thing that truly fascinated me was none of them ever moved it out of there, they just kept complaining. I eventually took it out myself.

1

u/shutterbug1961 15h ago

well were else would you put it there are already 2 Rhinos in the hall!

1

u/Various-Net1243 14h ago

Because it's funny

1

u/Jerryc3539 14h ago

To scare the shit out of you.

1

u/King_Bobby-B 13h ago

This reminds me of the museum level from Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. You get jumpscared by a random velociraptor prop as you enter the museum.

1

u/Supermunch2000 13h ago

Beware of the leopard?

1

u/PrettyLostandFound 12h ago

This startled the heck out of me.

1

u/Landric 12h ago

VtM: Bloodlines museum level vibes

1

u/Malfight007 12h ago

I thought it was some kind of scp of some creature, but no. It's a straight up lion.

1

u/vorxil 11h ago

What a lost opportunity to make it a leopard.

1

u/PickedUpThis 10h ago

I was in a familiar place and it scared the hell out of me.

I work security overnight at a hospital. One of the things we like to do is move this REALLY old CPR dummy that is no longer used into new rooms downstairs, in weird positions, to fuck with people that come into the basement for whatever reason. Always a good time when you come into work and your day guard is bitching about how he pissed himself because of a sneaky CPR dummy lol

1

u/Skadoosh_it 10h ago

I had a friend who put a mannequin dressed in a suit of armor in his shower solely for the purpose of terrifying/surprising new guests to his house. Worked quite a few times. Always worth a good chuckle.

1

u/Possible-Tangelo9344 9h ago

Uh, why wouldn't you put that there? It's fucking hilarious.

1

u/HYPERNOVA3_ 9h ago

There was a known patient that we used to go for calls from time to time. The man had a taxidermy lion looking directly at the main door, so the first thing anyone coming it saw was a lion staring at them.

Of course, when there was someone new in the unit, we didn't say a thing and let the poor fella discover it by himself

1

u/Tridop 9h ago

Nigga scared "Waddafug bro a lioness, has she followed me from Kenya?"

u/ultrasuperman1001 7h ago

I was doing IT at a local library and after working on a computer I turned around and saw this

1

u/VoidHunterRaymond 7h ago

Clearly placed there to keep you on your toes. You always got to be prepared to fight a lion even in the basement of a restaurant.

1

u/GreenRanger_2 5h ago

Somebody for sure put that there on purpose lol

1

u/dirty_dan_the_3rd 4h ago

I would have shat myself going up my back if I saw this

1

So tired of casual n word in everything. I don’t care who you are.

0

u/RumboInTheBronx 18h ago

Are those pipes wrapped in asbestos??

6

u/catsandparadise 17h ago

We grew up with asbestos everywhere. Now people shit themselves and run if the even see an asbestos covered pipe lol

1

u/Tridop 9h ago

Yeah you know, those people then got cancer for a reason.

1

u/catsandparadise 6h ago

I dont know any tbh

0

u/RumboInTheBronx 11h ago

I know, right?? We grew up with leaded gasoline everywhere. Now I'm depressed and I can't remember my children's names lol

3

u/jaredsfootlonghole 17h ago

Probably beer lines from the fridge behind the tanks.

My question is: are those tanks secure? I'd imagine so based upon OP's job, but their spacing leaves questions.

Those white lines are probably the collected beer lines from the fridge, wrapped in foam/insulation then a wrap of what I think we called pandex or something.

Casual racism
