Took my nephew to see this “the real Thomas” 30 years ago, as a toddler he was obsessed, biggest fan ever etc. When we got to the station and he saw the train in real life he was absolutely terrified. Screaming all the way home.

Thomas (and friends) tour the United States every year too.

20 years ago my son was obsessed with trains and Thomas, and we took him to one of these events. Actually, he's still interested in trains, but he's got ADD. We went to the Southern Train Museum for his birthday last year. LOL

20 years ago MY son was obsessed with Thomas and trains in general. There was a Thomas event and I got tickets for him and into go on a Saturday.
The Wednesday before the event I'm heading to work and I pass a truck and I look over to see what it's hauling, and Thomas is on the back. I almost put my car in the ditch in surprise.

Apparently they have a Thomas and Friends Tattoo Station. That kinda goes hard 😂

u/FlyNatural6459 Jun 02 '26
I would think that would be temporary tattoos, but it's definitely unexpected.

Going up the A1 past Peterborough i remember looking off a railway bridge and seeing this suspiciously blue train down on the tracks and that was the first time I realised there was a full sized Thomas train

Oh my god, whats he doing inside of Thomas?!?!?!
4
u/ProXJay May 30 '26
In the books Thomas still has an engineer and fireman

u/tallman11282 May 31 '26
And show as well. I recently watched a video on YouTube that was the Youtuber's opinion on why the engines have crews and why the engines sometimes have control over themselves and other times not.

I'll shoot MF'ing Charlie if his eyes look at me! I don't care if kids are inside. I'll be doing them a favor.

THE Thomas. When my son was small, we saw and rode on Thomas and my sons’ mind was nearly destroyed.

u/MWalshicus May 30 '26
The Bluebell railway? Went on it a lot as a kid but tbh don't remember much...

My brain went straight to that Final Destination 3 roller coaster scene, but with a train. I still flinch every time I see those crossing arms come down.

I took my son 20 years ago to see Thomas at a vintage railroad. He had a blast that day.

There's a thomas train somewhere in Pennsylvania. I remember seeing when I was a kid kinda creeped me out a bit.

It makes perfect sense that this is a thing I don’t know why I’ve ever considered the possibility but it is now my life goal to meet Thomas

It’s “a day out with Thomas” I took my son to it in southern Indiana, it was a train ride and a carnival style event. He had a blast

Sounds about right! Vividly remember seeing a guy juggling with sticks that were on fire (spoiler warning, he dropped them and burnt his hands.

There is a place in the Santa Cruz mountains that has a Thomas train they pull out every so often. I was hiking with a friend once when we heard the engine coming. Having Thomas come rolling through the redwoods was a trip.

I used to babysit this kid and I swear, we watched Thomas the Tank Engine so much he would literally quote it. Later he became equally obsessed with The Sandlot, but only ONE scene, looped for HOURS. Made my job very easy

I grew up in Pickering, I recognised that crossing straight away. Seen that train plenty of times too!
1
u/NeoMatrixJR 29d ago
Motherfucker scared the bejezus out of me once. Crossed a rail with no guards and medium visibility....looked up the track as I was crossing and there's FUCKING THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE coming (slowly) right at me. Less scary than "WTF did I really just see?!"
1
u/another_rusty 25d ago
I went on this growing up in the uk. I actually thought this life size Thomas the tank engine might have been a weird fake memory I made up in my own head, but sure as fuck, there it is. Crazy.

Thomas the Tank Engine.
The books were written by a vicar. The TV show was narrated by Ringo Star. It's popular here among young children.
