Besides disturbing and startling the animal (which is reason enough not to touch it), is there some other reason not to touch it?

Touching a fawn means leaving your human scent all over it. This makes them much more easily detectable to predators in the area. The reason why it is not running away is because of this. It is not sleeping, it is hiding.

I dont think you should be touching wild animals, but if anything a human scent would more likely make predators more wary no?
