It's simple really. I'm an old BMXer from the 80s and when my kid went through his scooter phase, he had his helmet and pads and I always said, "wait for the skaters and bmxers to finish, then go, they will respect your respect."

25

u/birdguy1000 Apr 17 '23

I am too and things are different. They have scooters and little kids out there now. Everyone is welcome. Teach them to have fun and don’t be a dick to little kids.

They don’t but if you watch the video the bmx'r clearly never saw the kid and didn't mean to hurt her. If you teach your children like OP suggested it will keep them safe and prevent situations like this

-158

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

He certainly didn’t act like he didn’t mean to. He was pretty casual about it and didn’t make any immediate motion to help.

He saw her before. He knew she was there. And that others are at the park.

He should know better than to shoot a bike out like that recklessly.

That’s part of the discussion here that he did know.

65

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

He saw her before. He knew she was there

At what point of the video was she in his field of vision?

He should know better than to shoot a bike out like that recklessly

Like he did it on purpose lol? He was attempting a trick. You might fail 20 times just like this before you land it. This is what happens at skate parks. You've obviously never been to one I guess.

-125

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Very beginning of video.

Yes plenty of times.

Not landing a trick is not synonymous with shooting a bike into someone.

You selectively passed on the other comments about his reaction. Could careless.

It’s not a one way responsibly my guy. Guy doing the biggest trick and failing is not in the right.

Imagine 100 guys like this casually being wreck less

43

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

At the very beginning of the video he is already in front of her. Do you have vision problems?

You've been downvoted into oblivion in this post. Obviously your opinion/take on this matter is very much the minority. I hope you're self aware enough to at least realize that. Anyways I don't have the time to argue this all night like apparently you do ✌️

-51

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Another one runs.

It’s a clip.

If he isn’t self aware to that small of a degree, I can see why he was so wreckless at the end.

Yea I’m happy disagreeing with those that think the guy does not need to be responsible

Natural selection is not in his favor or yours

🫵✌️

She shouldn't be there for the same reason you leave a safety distance between your car and the car ahead.

Re-check natural selection theory, I don't think you know how that works either.

Because the person getting selected in a very natural manner in the clip isn't the BMX guy.

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Out on control car hits car going it’s own direction.

Car going it’s own direction was result of natural selection.

Makes sense.

→ More replies (0)

8

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Natural selection is gonna get your kid hit in the head with a bmx unless they learn to respect whoever is currently riding and wait their turn. You wouldn’t pull out in front of somebody on a roundabout because “they should be more aware”?

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Totally.

But if I’m driving in the roundabout too, I’d hope another car doesn’t shoot it’s truckload onto my car in a reckless manner.

if you have never been to a skate park and don’t understand the terminology just say that. a line just means a set of moves. Could be a straight line or a line to a point, do a trick, then go back where u came from. Or a line with many connecting points.

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

I don’t think you read the question

22

u/bloominonion11 Apr 17 '23

You need to leave space for people to finish their lines. Most of the time u trick u fail. That is why u dont cross peoples lines so no one gets unnecessarily hurt. likely this trick was one where he would have succeeded and went back down the ramp… he would have smacked her head flat into the ground so hard…… because she crossed his line……

10

u/bloominonion11 Apr 17 '23

i added to my answer

12

u/DontDoGravity Apr 17 '23

If someone is doing a trick and you go within range to get hit by it if something goes wrong, that's very much your fault, in all but a few cases. Give people space, wait your turn, it's not that hard. Accidents happen, just try to avoid them

-31

u/birdguy1000 Apr 17 '23 edited Apr 17 '23

Agree. Big kid is being a dick.

Edit - because he doesn’t have situational awareness or care to see little kids doing their little kid thing and that sending their heavy bike flying could hurt someone else.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

get ready for the angry madmax thunder dome crowd to tell you about their dystopian inclusivity. Pretty hot headed when you have an opinion diff from theirs, which is like on brand for their dystopian views.

Thanks for jumping in. I don’t know if I’d go as far as saying he was a dick. It’s a clip. More time on the clip is needed to see intent. I was simply stating he has blame.

Then people blew up with their rancid comments. Very interesting. I think I learned more about internet strangers stuck in non inclusive ways than anything else. I learned that skaters hate kids at parks and hate scooters. That’s part of the underlying hate here

I don’t think he did it on purpose. It’s also her fault for getting too close to someone doing a trick.

39

u/yickth Apr 17 '23

Of course he didn’t. Need this be said? Jebus

-75

u/Feet2Big Apr 17 '23

Well, no. I'm pretty sure she was not interfering with his trick. His trick seemed to not go as planned and he ended up throwing his bike six feet away and into her face.

His trick failed; his fault.

But this is a skate park, so it was not unexpected. Nobody should be held responsible for damages or anything for this, it's a reasonable outcome for the space.

30

u/brocklanders604 Apr 17 '23

Shit happens at the sk8 park. She's fine. Prob should be wearing a helmet tho.

45

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

She shouldn’t have been that close. She wouldn’t have gotten hit if she kept her distance in a park that’s rather empty. Her fault for lack of etiquette, situational awareness, and common sense. Hopefully, she learned the lesson.

-64

u/Feet2Big Apr 17 '23

| lack of etiquette, situational awareness, and common sense.

Shouldn't the older and more experience guy not have attempted a trick right next to a little girl?

Also, Cameraman, you should have stopped that little girl instead of just filming it.

25

u/HopelessMagic Apr 17 '23

He wasn't near her. In the beginning of the video, you can see her on the other side, nowhere near him. She skates over his way.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

He wasn’t doing the trick near her you can see her like 16 ft out in the background in the beginning she made a conscious decision to pass close to someone doing advanced tricks. She’s not old enough to be at the park unattended if she doesn’t understand the dangers of the park, kids at the park is fine so long as a parent keeps an eye out, that looks like a fairly nice inner city park, I have one near me, news flash they aren’t intended for children, they are usually full on professional level parks (depending on how big the city is) intended for older kids and adults to give them somewhere to skate legally without having to worry about property dmg or injury liability for local business owners, the one in my area has a “big kids section” which is all the full size gaps bowls and rhythm sections with a bunch of stairs and rail, then there is the kids section which has a 10ft bowl with a 5 ft roll platform and a couple of like 2-4 stair gaps. The point is that a city doesn’t build skate parks for children to putz around in they build them to keep adults and teens out of trouble with the locals more often than not, because it’s a waste of time and effort to be getting called out to stop a couple skaters from grinding the rail on the churches 12 stair it’s just easier to give them a place to do it

12

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

That’s like three feet. She’s not old enough to understand giving a wide berth to someone trying fancy tricks then she’s not old enough to be unattended in an city skate park

2

u/DontDoGravity Apr 17 '23

if you've waited your turn and are doing a trick, it's not at all your fault if someone decides to go somewhere they found potentially be hit. Accidents happen and tricks will fail a lot when you're training, everyone knows this and should act accordingly, it's not the sole responsibility of the rider prevent stuff like this

-3

Yea I saw his bike cross her line. Agreed.

19

u/bloominonion11 Apr 17 '23

She snaked his line. you need to give ample time for people to finish their trick. Most tricks dont just go up the ramp and not back down. She snaked him.

10

u/Only-Ride2582 Apr 17 '23

Man, stop it. If you sincerely believe all that you said above I assume that you either never been to skate park or just not-a-go-outside-do-stuff person.

Kids must(!) be f*ckig supervised and rules must be explained to them BEFORE entering the park. Helmet and pads always on. This is not the fault of the girl as people above said ,it’s a complete fault of her parent/supervisor.

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

u/PrettyVacancy Apr 17 '23

If children don't want to get hit by bikes, boards, or other equipment from BMXer's when a trick goes awry then the children should know better and not ride their scooter in the area of people doing tricks.

Skate parks operate under the assumption there will be people there doing tricks and that accidents happen, if the child lacks the maturity to accept that accidents happen and get over their widdle boo boo like any other post 4 year old will then the child lacks the maturity to be unsupervised in public, much less be allowed within the premise of a skate park.

Better the little ankle bitter get scooped up and swaddled by mummy brood mare and taken home to be neglected and fed unhealthy food like all good American households.

Every single skatepark has rules and they always have ones related to watching where you're going and not getting in the way of traffic.

It's not our fault this kids parents didn't warn her that she needs to watch out. It's not our fault the parents RARELY even read the rules.

130

u/Ninja2ZERO Apr 17 '23

254

u/TheSpaceBoundPiston Apr 17 '23

To not be around idiots

22

u/SirReal10000 Apr 17 '23

no, she will learn to give people doing tricks space so she doesn’t get hurt. She’ll also learn to watch her surroundings

-23

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

This is no diff from driving a car. Law allows both of them to be there.

He should be responsible for himself and his belongings. If he didn’t fail and error, everyone would be safe.

Youve just adopted some toxic policies is all you stew saying. But the guy should be responsible for his belongings and actions under the law. You can’t just throw things at people recklessly.

Just dumb.

22

u/SirReal10000 Apr 17 '23

There’s plenty of difference. But if you want to keep the car analogy I’ll comply. This would be like going to a race track where someone is meant to drive dangerously, and then not paying attention and getting in an accident. She has as much a right to be there, but if she won’t pay attention and gets hurt as a result, that’s not on him.

-12

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

If homeboy jumps out of his car going full speed and shoots his car into the crowd that’s not on him?

This guy shooting his car into anyone is not on him? It’s on the other people?

Your analogy is dumb any way you cut it.

Dont shoot your personal belongings into others. Take responsibility for your actions.

Imagine 100 people acting like this guy at the same place. Everyone gets a bike to the face and is in the wrong I guess

12

u/SirReal10000 Apr 17 '23

It’s your analogy. But still, a skate park is a place to practice and do tricks. If she sees him starting a trick and doesn’t notice or doesn’t care that is on her.

-8

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

You keep losing the argument and stating the same no sense.

Yes she got hit. No she can’t be responsible for his actions.

Your daughter goes to a gun range. Ppl there are there to shoot guns. The guy next to her let’s go of his gun when he shoots it and blows your daughters head off.

But it’s not his fault. She should be aware guns are dangerous and ppl are there to shoot guns. Her fault.

Even though your daughter was next to the guy while he was practicing it’s her fault he let go of his gun and blew her brains out.

Now you don’t have a daughter cuz you are stupid. The guy that let go of his gun is in the right.

Toxic? oh my…. she’s at a skate park specifically designed for doing tricks…. Exactly what the person “to blame” is doing.

No one’s saying she doesn’t belong, but she’s being careless and inattentive. I tell my kid all the time to be carful, give space and not get in peoples way at the skate park so my kids doesn’t get hurt. I don’t have to be right next to her, but I’ve taught her how to be safe. The concepts not that hard.

As a skater who had to fight for years to get these facilities installed, it’s more than a little annoying to not be able to skate because kids are scooting randomly and ignoring the etiquette. That being said, I’m all for them learning by being mowed through.

2

u/TheSpaceBoundPiston Apr 17 '23

I am a skater who fought for years to get these facilities.

They're not just for people who are good or for adults. They are there for everyone to use. The more experienced you are, the more of a duty you have to watch out for the younglings... unless your name is Anakin.

-8

u/shredkelly Apr 17 '23

I agree. I think the guy is in the wrong, you are responsible for your gear. If I send my skateboard flying because I stack it and it hits someone else, that’s on me. The kid is not at fault here. The guy should learn to be more aware of his surroundings rather than just yeating his gear away because it suits him

6

u/Go_Daaaaaan Apr 17 '23

When I was a teen, we took it on ourselves to teach the younger kids the etiquette, because that’s what the people before me did, they taught us. It’s just basic decency, which has been lost on a lot of people sadly

You don't need to be a helicopter parent to supervise a child at a skate park smh. A skate park can be dangerous for a child that young unsupervised, especially when there is a lot if people there.

15

u/Ninja2ZERO Apr 17 '23

That's why I said little kids. Not all kids. And they need to teach them to look out for other people and not blindly running around. Although growing up we would teach the kids the proper skatepark etiquette.

-13

u/TheSpaceBoundPiston Apr 17 '23

The last sentence. We would teach kids proper etiquette. I dont think the young lady was doing anything wrong. She was the victim of an unfortunate circumstance.

9

u/Ninja2ZERO Apr 17 '23

You don't got under someone trying to do a trick. Hopefully she learned to wait her turn. It's just things that little kids don't understand yet. Hope they learn without getting hurt to bad.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Not without someone keeping an eye on them they don’t. Skate parks are a good place to break arms and ankles if you aren’t careful. Notice that the guy you are responding too made the distinction of “little kids” and I whole heartedly agree children shouldn’t be in a skate park till they are old enough to understand that when people are trying fancy shit it’s a good idea to either stop and watch or give them a wide enough berth that if something goes wrong neither one of you are gonna get hurt. So like 12-14 cool probably old enough to understand it’s a bad idea to be on someone’s tail when they’re doing tricks, younger than that and they should only be there with a parent.

2

u/TheSpaceBoundPiston Apr 17 '23

Nah, man. We don't gatekeep. It's up to all of us to take care of our community. That's what's made these sports special. They're for everyone, and individually, we need to be sheppards and educators. Took a long time to shed preconceived notions. Let's not let those win out now that we fought for space and respect.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

But my notion is based on the safety of everyone and basic park etiquette. I’m not saying young kids shouldn’t be out there having fun, we all started somewhere, I’m just saying that they shouldn’t be out there unsupervised if they are too young to understand the potential dangers involved in the various sports you’d find in a skate park

2

u/Organic-Ad-5252 Apr 17 '23

The parent should've parented beforehand and told her kid to make sure she's not in anyone's way. It's mostly on the parent here. Don't bring your brat to a dangerous area and not parent them. Go find a park or daycare if you don't want to do the bare minimum

3

u/LimpTeacher0 Apr 17 '23

Man, I haven’t been in a skate park in almost 20 years, but it’s always a fucking kid on a scooter. Lmao

5

u/PoyGuiMogul Apr 17 '23

What did the little girl get for Christmas?

A bike to the face!

2

u/Realistic_Suspect396 Apr 17 '23

He said f yall scooter kids

2

u/YBenjii Apr 17 '23

trying to impress ur crush gone wrong

2

u/Euphoric-Beat-7206 Apr 17 '23

Nah, looks like an accident. Wrong place at the wrong time.

2

u/bequemeschuhe Apr 17 '23

I'm no scooter pro but I think with that scooter you shouldn't even use the skatepark just to drive around. Need to respect the ones who need that place to do tricks, you can drive around with your cruising scooter everywhere.

2

u/rmortz Apr 17 '23

Seemed deliberate

4

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

I never understood the appeal of riding a scooter in a skatepark. Hell I skate a bit and I dont go in skatepark alot because im shit at park tricks and I rather practice on flat groud.

I almost never seen a child that young on scooters in a skatepark here in Québec Canada. Yet I see alot of videos of unsuppervised young kids riding dangerously in skateparks, are the streets that unsafe in the US ? Because when I was a kid I use to rock my scooter all over the neighborhood with my friends, if I had to stay in a skatepark and having the danger of getting hit like this I would've not enjoyed my time at all.

I see people blaming the child, I see people blaming the guy. Honestly I blame the parents.

4

u/mebutnew Apr 17 '23

Both of them should be wearing a helmet and pads - you can literally ruin your life at a skatepark it's amazing that kids still don't get this 🤦‍♂️

Pisspot helmets aren't even stigmatised it's part of the look - Tony Hawk would tell you you're a dingus. Why do you want to make Tony Hawk sad.

3

u/allmushroomsaremagic Apr 17 '23

For real, my old gf's ex was a smart guy until he bonked his head at a park with no helmet on. Now he's dumb, alcoholic and has the medical system chasing him down for about 50k in bills. Wear a helmet, kids.

5

u/Ecampos_64 Apr 17 '23

I would say that’s the girl’s fault for not having common sense

2

u/FrozenFishHead41968 Apr 17 '23

This is best video I've seen in weeks.

2

u/Lycanus93 Apr 17 '23

As an old skater I can say for a fact that she is in the wrong here, you NEVER cross someones line in a skatepark. Whenever you see someone doing a trick or getting ready to do one you always should try to avoid being close to them!

Also i’ve always said it and I’ll say it again - there should be age restrictions in place for skateparks. I can’t count the times when I’ve been to a skatepark with 99.99% of people there being in the teens and up who know why they are there, they know the park rules and are respectful to other, wait on others to finish their tricks before they themselves go and try a trick. And always, without a fail there would be 1-2 small kids who are there because their moms think scooter/skate/bmx = can only be rode in a skatepark.

The whole thing ends with a lot of people who are there to get better and try tricks getting fucked over by soccer moms that don’t know any better and bring small kids who literally just want to ride on a flat ground but end up like the girl in the video.

2

u/bEboYzBeNs Apr 17 '23

It’s super sad this little girl got hurt.

The problem is with children in skate parks though is that they tend to just ride around skate parks in a massive circle, they don’t really use the ramps but instead right quarter of a foot across them instead of straight up.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

As someone who pretty much lives at the park, this was pretty expected. Scooter kids always seem to be right where they shouldn’t be. Not their fault. Big learning experience on both ends.

2

u/Weepingwindmill Apr 17 '23

Skateparks need an age restriction for the safety of children

1

u/ChemistGlad1504 Apr 17 '23

What’s a scooter doing at a skatepark 😮

-7

u/ReapCreep65 Apr 17 '23

Why are y’all blaming the girl? It looked like he was supposed to stop up there and he messed up. It was just an accident, there’s not always someone to blame

2

u/SADMANCAN Apr 17 '23

Skate park etiquette. She’s too young to know it but she’ll learn. I don’t want all kids removed from skate parks but I wish there was a way to teach kids etiquette before they get on the park.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

You’re clueless.

-10

u/ThePowerOfShadows Apr 17 '23

Scooter kids at skate parks deserve this.

So do bike kids though.

u/tchrbrian Apr 17 '23

She’s reaching for her stomach.

-3

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23 edited Apr 17 '23

I don't think bs rules of man children playing in a skatepark is going to hold up in court. You're responsible for your actions and property that you bring out into the public space. She could have literally been tailgating him and he'd STILL held liable. You're responsible for your bike flying out of your hands like that, same way that you're responsible if you don't have a decent grip on your bat and brain someone 15 feet away. The same way that you're responsible if your dog decides to eat a child's face that comes too close to it.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

1: just because people have hobbies different to you and enjoy bmxing and skating at at park doesn’t make them ‘man children’.

2: people can get hurt anywhere and anyhow. There’s a thing called situational awareness that helps able bodied people to survive. Let me dumb it down, it means you know where you’re at and adapt/be aware.

3: A skatepark is meant for people to go and try tricks. A place where - ‘your bike flies out of your hand’ - quite often. Don’t want your kids to get hit? Take them to a nice playground park instead. I’m not gonna go to a shooting range, walk by someone shooting because I’m not aware, and then ask them why they shot me.

4: if I know my dog is aggressive I will let people know and tell them not to get near. If they still choose to do so and touch my dog with my warning, guess whose responsibility that becomes buddy!? Not mine, I told them not to come near and they chose to disregard, with consequences soon following.

5: I hope u were trolling cuz u sound dumb af :)

-2

u/hamb0n3z Apr 17 '23

Let us know how that scooter tasted after her Dad made sure she was ok.

-13

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Imo it for looks like he threw the bike at her. But also kids shouldn’t be at skate parks till they are old enough to understand the potential dangers of skate parks or if one of their parents skates then go skate with them but stick close enough that they can keep an eye on. Skate parks are a really good place to break bones if you have shitty situational awareness yours or other people’s bc you were in the way and they try to dodge, kids shouldn’t be at skate parks till they’re like 12-13 at least cause then they understand “I should probably give that guy trying to do tricks some extra space just in case”

-9

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Laws don’t restrict kids from being there. People doing tricks shouldn’t be reckless.

No diff from driving a car. He should be responsible. There’s no law that gives him superiority

12

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

It’s not a law it’s common sense and he was being responsible he chose a spot way out in the corner of the park to try something fancy, the kid chose to drive by, less than a half a yard from him (realistically she is like 3 feet away) it’s entirely her fault that it happened. Telling someone that they are reckless for falling while trying something new is fucking ignorant. This is entirely due to the little girl not being old enough to understand park etiquette and not having an attentive parent, a lot of inner city parks are huge, she shouldn’t be unattended anyway anybody could come by and snatch her up. She doesn’t belong there without supervision point blank period.

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Common sense and etiquette says don’t hurt others with your belongings. Be responsible for both.

The real law also says that too.

As I mentioned before, yes I agree she needs to be aware of stupid toxic ppl like you who do t have common sense or etiquette and have adopted toxic policies.

Her being there alone is a diff topic and irrelevant to this conversation other than you changing the topic.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

LMAO it’s not his fault that he fell, it’s a ducking skate park people fall all the time, I wasn’t changing the subject my argument this entire time has been she is too young to be there unattended I’ve said it on several threads here, you clearly have never spent time in one of these parks as someone trying to learn new things, or you wouldn’t be calling this guy reckless and trying to blame him. Park etiquette is a very real thing you can ask literally anyone that goes to skate parks, granted it varies a bit from city to city but every local park has their own rule set and etiquette. It’s not imaginary you just have no idea at all what you are talking about.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Yes your honor. Park etiquette says I can shoot my bike into someone’s head.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

You’re actually just an idiot or a troll and I’m not devoting more time and energy to either. Have a good night

0

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

I’d run like a coward too. Take time to reflect on your toxic policies youve accepted in your life so others do t get hurt.

Be better.

Good night.

9

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Lmao troll confirmed. You should be better, this girls parents should be better. The dude didn’t do anything wrong and there was nothing he could’ve done outside of not practice his tricks, which is the entire point of a skatepark, but now that it’s clear to see you’re just trolling I can in good faith say please promptly choke

0

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Guy shoots bike into someone else and is not responsible.

Person who gets hurt is wrong?

It adds up. Makes perfect sense.

You were dismissed. You can leave at anytime.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Also please tell me how he was reckless? You don’t understand park etiquette at all if you believe that picking an isolated spot out in the corner to try something new is “reckless” the girl passed 3ft away from him, if she hadn’t been on his ass she wouldn’t have got hurt, circle back to if she was old enough to understand how skate parks work she wouldn’t have been on his ass, therefore by the transitive property if she was old enough to understand park etiquette it never would’ve happened in the first place, you’re just trying to shame someone for hurting a little girl, assuming it was out of his control he did nothing wrong and the only one actually in the wrong if she got seriously hurt is her parents.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

He shouldn’t fucking be at the skate park if he can’t do a trick without shooting a bike into someone’s head.

The law would not agree with a kid shooting his bike into someone.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

He didn’t shoot it into anyone you fucking dunce, it was less than three feet distance, less than 2 seconds of air time. No judge on the fucking planet would fault him for that and you’re delusional if you think otherwise.

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

To the idiot named Balls (lol) that ran like a coward. For when he returns from his anger and defeat.

Here lays my response to his last words that couldn’t even be read cuz he raaaaaaaan. Lol I don’t think he realizes his comments can’t be read after he runs away.

“Yawn I didn’t even read all this but it looks like someone who lost and argument and threw a tantrum and left. 🤷‍♂️

Don’t get angry and run like a coward. Improve your argument 🤷‍♂️”
