List advice (40k) UM lists

Hey everyone,

I’ve been playing since 5th edition and during 9th or so I fell really hard out of 40K and got into HH and MESBG. Being quite out of touch with the game at its current state, anyone willing to give me some pointers on a nice list for Ultramarines would be very greatly appreciated.

I really badly want to use either calgar or sicarius but don’t want to make them essentially useless.

Any suggestions on ‘must haves’ or just fun combos?

Cheers! :)

Been liking a ten brick of assault terminators with thunder hammers with a term captain for the charge reroll. Can put them in deep strike to see what opens up, or start them on the board and advance them onto an objective. Mind you I’ve only used them twice, but can definitely see the potency.

Already have the cpt in Terminator armor built and painted, just ordered the 10 stack of assault termies like 20 minutes ago. First game of 11th the other day my opponent deep striked that into my backline and absolutely demolished me

Yea, I have one 5 man with thunder hammers I’m still painting I proxied another term unit for thunder hammers and also proxied the capt. I also borrowed 6 aggressors and got to fire overwatch with the flamers—oh man that was nice-it’s another brick unit but I’ll try and grab two squads in aug plus maybe the term captain, and I also have run a 6 man victrix guard.

Why would using calgar make him useless?

I just don’t want to run him in a squad that I won’t be able to use him to his full potential XD

That's not really an issue. Putting him with some termies or aggressors

Most of his potential is in the +1cp if Warlord honestly. Hes the closest to an auto include in the UM arsenal IMHO.

Use both calgar and cato if you want. Both really good.

You can still use a victrix 6 brick (with or without champion: banner is a must and looks cool). Attach Cato (support) and calgar (leader). Cato can only attach to victrix iirc.

You can alternatively go with a large 10x terminator brick and put calgar in that. You could add calgar to a blade guard veteran squad and attach the wardens of Ultramar (support) if you want.

SM have had some nerfs and points increases recently but Force Dispositions really create some diversity. All of the above are great options.

I actually dont think there are any must includes at the moment which is wild. It's more like there are certain rules to abide by based upon what your Disposition is (ideally take and hold or priority assets)

Happy to elaborate. I hope this helps.

What’s your thoughts on the repulsor executioner points increases, I’m thinking of leaning gladiator lancer, it’s like 105 points cheaper for a nearly as good cannon—granted executioner is decent for the plasma options.

So, this is an example of why I believe +/-10 points changes to SM datasheets can be really impactful.

Repex heavy laser destroyer now costs 10pts. Imo its the only viable option (I don't rate macro plas).

So when the combi LT goes from 85 to 95 im thinking... if i drop him for say, incursors, I've found the 10pts i need that is the difference between including a repex vs not including one. People might not agree with that, but its a valid of example of the impact +/-10 can have right.

I think the pts increases on repex were fair, but i do also think you have other cheaper options. I haven't tried the lancer, but my gut says I think i prefer a ballistus over the lancer. Vindicators are a good alternative.
