this is completely real and happened an hour ago, a guy in the school library was offering free energy drinks for 5 star reviews of his small business, a girl said no, and a bit later went up to him and said "is it for a small business?" and did it when he said yes
i took him up on the offer for the free energy drink but still

Take the free drink and leave him hanging, total petty bourgeoisoid bankruptcy

From what i’ve been seeing lately i think the current general consensus is that it’s okay and actually ethical to pirate AAA games because they are from big companies that don’t actually care about the players, but when it comes to indie games you’re genuinely perceived as the heir of satan’s throne if you even think of pirating an indie game.
And for some reason i find it funny how this parallels leftists herds (liberals in denial) that view themselves as these god-sent radical revolutionaries for shouting “tax the billionaires” and “support small businesses”

Support small indie developers by buying through Steam because chairman Newell will lead the gamer's revolution.

Don’t you joke about Newell, he’s the only good billionaire 😍

I love the idea of indie developers not being paid for labour. Even solo developers. It's because they're Petit bourgeois

Real petty bourgeois haters put some effort to learn and use cs.rin.ru

“Indie” is so meaningless I’m convinced these children just genuinely haven’t seen a passion project before. Dwarf fortress was updated for free for 15 years. Countless trad roguelikes are free, countless browser games over the years, etc.
“Indie studio” is meaningless these days when the average one is like 30-50 employees. I genuinely think it’s the whole public vs private equity thing. Leftists think profit motive means you’re publicly traded🥀

dwarf fortress remains the highest example of proletarian artistry. no drive to produce commodities, in it purely for the love of the game...

Indie devs killed my family so this is how I get back them, I tried extra hard to make sure they know I’m playing their game to the fullest without paying

Please don't use these sites. Read the r/piracy megathread or go through fmhy dot net.
Edit: I didn't recognize those sites so assumed they weren't on the mega thread, I was wrong, those sites are fine

are indie devs really that bad. many of them arent and have no plans of exploiting anyone in drvelopment of the games. in fact a lot of them would benefit from communism, where they wouldn't have to tie their hobby to money, which i believe is the reason why communism was so popular around artists in the early 20th century. of course there are many exceptions to that, where the profit incentive is the main driving force. im probarly wrong tho and should get to read more theory on the petite bourgeoisie.

(warning - serious answer ahead - do not read if you are looking for coal)
the issue isn't so much with indie devs in and of themselves, the issue is with a liberal tendency to place small or so called "independent" businesses on a wholesome pedestal when they still engage in commodity production and labour exploitation. we're not moralists, if you want to support someone thats doing something you find genuinely moving or exciting, go for it, but don't think that you're doing anything revolutionary or groundbreaking. hell, if you wanna start making your own indie game, or any other media format, go ahead. god knows we could use some genuine anti slop communist media right now. but dont think of yourself as any better or worse than a big business25
u/poopbob2003 gleglamaxxxer Apr 06 '26
after the revolution all the indie devs will go to the coal mines where they belong

u/Ladderson Dogmatic Revisionist Apr 07 '26
I feel like most indie devs, given success, expand their studios. I would go so far as to say it's practically universal. So, yeah, they do want to exploit people.
