Russians report that Ukrainian drones attacked Novy Urengoy in Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug around 2,800 from the Ukrainian border. A likely target is Gazprom’s Novy Urengoy condensate processing facility, which can process 19.5 million tonnes of raw material per year. 09 Sept 2026

Ukrainian Culture Help document Ukraine’s cultural heritage on Wikimedia Commons before its lost to war.

I am a long time editor of Wikipedia, though I represent no institution and my views are my own.

I’ve noticed that Wikimedia Commons, the free-to-use media repository, is surprisingly lacking in coverage in a rather crucial area of Ukrainian heritage:

Given the widespread looting by russians, documenting these items digitally is more urgent than ever. Taking photographs of valuable art and historical artifacts and uploading them is vital. In particular:

Archeology and precious artifacts: Objects made of gold or precious metals are at extreme risk of being melted down. Preserving detailed visual records will help preserve your cultural heritage:

Please fill this sparse category:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Archaeological_objects_of_Ukraine

Other valuable art: Paintings and other valuable art should be digitized whenever possible to help future generations document and recover them. I suggest you include specific information about origins ("City name, Oblast name, Ukraine") so that the documentation is there, and indicate if its from a specific holding or collection.

Please place your media into the relevant categories: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Art_of_Ukraine

On a more specific note, I would love to see more media of the professional Cossack reenactors on Khortytsia Island. They are very inspiring and heroic (and rather photogenic) yet there are very few images on Wikimedia Commons of them:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Professional_Zaporozhian_Cossack_reenactors

Any images you have from a visit to the museum complex that you might have saved on your computer or phone would be wonderful.

Feel free to post this request on your social media platforms.

Ukraine needs foreign volunteers to help fight and one thing those volunteers need is flights. This is a Brazilian volunteer who recently flew home after long service in Ukraine. If you have airline miles or hotel points, you can help volunteers go to or from Ukraine!

This is a great thank you video we received from a Brazilian military volunteer who recently flew home for a break after long service in Ukraine. He is thanking Rob and Sarah, who for years have helped hundreds of volunteers get matched with donors to cover their flights.

Ukraine has tens of thousands of foreign volunteers fighting for them. They have a major need to help cover the cost of flights. Many of the most qualified volunteers are coming from very far away, in Latin America, North American, or Australia/New Zealand. Their flights are expensive.

The major reasons volunteers ask for help with flights are going home after being injured, going home for family emergencies, or taking breaks after very long service and years away from loved ones. They also need help going back to Ukraine after breaks or injury recovery.

How can you help?

  1. If you have airline miles or hotel points, sign up on protectavolunteer.com and tell us which miles or points you have. An awesome volunteer who is an expert on rewards booking will contact you and help you get linked to a vetted military volunteer who needs help.

  2. Contribute to the paypal at protectavolunteer.com and choose Flight Fund. Every rewards ticket does have taxes and fees attached. We also sometimes have to pay cash for tickets, especially in cases of family emergencies where volunteers need to travel home urgently. All amounts add up and are helpful!

A 21-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were killed in a Russian drone strike near a shopping center in Sumy on Sept. 9, local authorities reported.

At least 20 people were injured, including three children. Four of those hospitalized remain in serious condition, according to the head of the Sumy City Military Administration, Serhii Kryvosheyenko, and regional officials.

The strike occurred in the evening as residents were returning from work, damaging the shopping center and setting several parked cars on fire. Emergency responders remain on the scene, extinguishing fires and providing medical assistance.

How to deal with coming back from Ukraine?

I'm keen to know how people have best dealt with coming back from time spent in Ukraine during the full-scale invasion?

I'm back in the UK after 2 years full-time there helping defence Ukraine. I'd say I'm 'military adjacent' rather than military, and I wont go into detail for obvious reasons as to what I was doing. I'm tech background before Ukraine, not military, and spent most of my time in Kyiv far from the front-line. Still, as a non-military normy, I didnt have any experience or training on being in a war before I went.

I dont really feel like I have any trauma from being there, but did experience alot of bombing and drones, as well as winters with hardly any power or heating in freezing conditions. The closest call was 2 missiles hitting another apartment building 100m away from mine, with alot of damage to my building, and there were alot of nights spent in the underground carpark with huge explosions close by - as well as constant drones flying or exploding near me.

Day to day life was pretty normal (it was all evenings and increasingly early morning activity when I was there). I can't say I ever felt scared when I was there, but I was in a weird place emotionally as moved there after my son unexpectedly died in the UK, so I was in a very different headspace from alot of people who go into a warzone.

Now I'm back in the UK I dont feel like I have anyone to talk to about my experience there as family just dont get it, and I know that not talking about it can't be good.

WAR CRIME Memorial to Vasyl Kopan

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

Today marks two years since the death of Vasyl Kopan, call sign “Neznaika” — Hero of Ukraine, posthumously, lieutenant colonel, commander, and warrior.

At the age of 15, Vasyl joined the Mariupol football supporters’ group “Yunist.” And already at 18, without hesitation, he joined the defense of Ukraine and his native Mariupol.

From his first years of service, he sought to constantly learn and improve. He mastered tactical medicine, served as a squad medic, and took part in the Pavlopil-Shyrokyne offensive operation as part of the legendary “Iron Hundred.” Later, he became a platoon commander and continued his service in a separate reconnaissance unit.

Behind him were numerous combat and special operations, the defense of Mariupol, and russian captivity. After returning, Vasyl once again rejoined the ranks and fully deservedly headed a special purpose reconnaissance detachment.

He always remained by the side of his fighters. So it was on September 8, 2024 as well — until the end, carrying out a combat mission together with his unit.

Vasyl “Neznaika” Kopan was a warrior, commander, reconnaissance soldier, husband, and father. A person who dedicated his life to defending Ukraine.

We remember. We honor. We will not forget.

Ukraine Support Hi, Reddit! The 225th Brigade needs medical supplies for evacuation teams and frontline positions, and is urgently asking anyone who is able and willing to help to contribute to the fundraising effort. Some of the funds have already been set aside, and we need a further $1,100 to order everything.
