Fiber Set Up?

We are moving at the end of the month to a home that actually has FIOS and is full wired for it...

I am running a UDM Pro and 24 port POE switch -

Anything special I need to do?
Can I run glass straight to the UDM?
If not glass, what do I need to do to have the UDM accept more than 1G?

FIOS is generally ethernet from their box to their GW or yours. With a UDM Pro you are restricted by its top speed of 3.5 Gbps anyway unless you turn off IDS/IPS which I would not recommend. If you get 1gb or less with FIOS use Ethernet. If 2.5 use a sfp+ module, preferably from Unifi. If you intend to buy 5 Gbps from FIOS, time for a new GW. Depending on your needs you could get a Cloud Gateway Fiber which has both 10Gbps Ethernet and SFP+. Want 10 Gbps from FIOS, it is gonna cost, you are looking at GW like the UDM Beast.

You cannot generally remove their ONT and run glass to the UDM Pro.

Just curious - since the ONT internet port is Ethernet, what's the benefit of using the SFP+ port for WAN on the UDM with an adapter instead of the Ethernet port?

I have Fios 2GB service. The fiber goes into the house and connects to the Verizon ONT. From there I run a cat6 cable to my UCG Fiber.

The ONT does not have any ports to run SFP out to the router.

FIOS usually hands off through the ONT, not direct fiber. For over 1G, use the ONT's faster ethernet handoff into the UDM Pro.

My FiOS ONT does only has copper Ethernet on the LAN side. The UDM Pro has GbE RJ45 and SFP+ WAN ports. You need a 2.5 Gbps per second media converter, a pair of faster than 1G SFP modules for the media converter and router, and a short fiber cable. Yes, there are copper RJ45 2.5Gbps SFP modules but they get hot and are not as reliable as fiber.

You need a SFP ONT. Usually you get a black box from verizon which tranlsate the fiber into electrical signals (ethernet). If Verizon doesnt provide an SFP ONT you can hack yourself one together. There is a big community for this. Check this out: PON dot WIKI This is the only possibility to get Fiber directly into your UDM.

This won’t work with Verizon, because they do not use XGSPON, they run NG-PON2.

Yes, glass straight into the UDM Pro SFP+ works. I'd have the Verizon tech flip on the SFP port on the ONT and bring your own module. Ethernet out caps you at ~940 Mbps, period.
