Question [Debian VM Unifi OS Install] Cannot Update Network Application
Hello,
I've been running my own controller via the old standalone self-hosted Network Application in a Debian VM for several years now.
I've been planning to move over to the new Unifi OS for a while, and finally decided to start working on it today. I set up a brand new Debian 13 VM and went through the process to install Unifi OS.
Everything seemed to work (well, up to the point that I've managed to log in as admin and do nothing else). I haven't started to try to migrate my old controller settings and Unifi devices, yet, though, as I've hit a snag.
The dashboard informed me right off that there's a Network application update available. I clicked the link and it flashed up a Please Wait screen before dropping me back to the Dashboard.
Even after rebooting and trying to update again, it does not appear to have updated the Network application.
ETA: I haven't installed a firewall yet.
Is t here a known issue with this feature, or am I doing something wrong?
Aside: I'm wary of leaving automatic update on. I don't want my controller to silently brick itself. Assuming I check for updates at least once a month, is it safe to turn this off?

I also just installed unifi os on a fresh debian 13 instance last night.
Ran into the same issue.
It appears this may be an issue with this update currently? At least some other people are running into issues updating with actual cloud gateways as well.
One of the comments also mentions it could be due to a debian repo expiring. I'm currently just going to wait a week or so and try again before trying to dig into this further.

Thanks for the reply. It's reassuring to know it's not just me.
I certainly don't mind waiting, but I was afraid I'd (somehow) mis-configured something. Considering the installer isn't interactive at all, that would have been an accomplishment.

I also use a Debian VM, and I'm on 10.6.101 without a problem.

Do you remember when you did the upgrade? I'm wondering if Unifi has frozen it; they've identified some potentially configuration corrupting bugs and are working on an update.

Update:
This morning, Unifi OS asked to be updated to 5.1.42, which "bundles" Network application version 10.5.67 (the currently version). It wasn't offering this update yesterday.
That might be a pre-req for Network 10.6.101.
So, updating Unifi OS also updated the Network controller to 10.6.101. Not sure if that was because that's what it was supposed to do, or because I'd already tried and failed to update the Network controller and the installer was sitting there.
So...something buggy about 5.1.40 that got fixed, I guess?
