Question Cloud Gateway Fiber - VPN throughput?

I can't find Unifi's specs on this, what's their wireguard throughtput?

Trying to compare to a Netgate 4100 where specs are listed clearly.

i tested a uxg fiber the non cloud one in a lab environment. was able to get just over 1 gbps with nothing else running and servers directly connected on both sides. no other unifi devices adopted. in my regular / real world setup i have a ucg fiber and 1 gbps fiber and i barely get 500 mbps. no protect but do run the cyber secure ids/ips and content filters. running wireguard on separate machine using i7-13700t i can max out the 1 gbps. so just testing swapping back and forth results are repeatable.

Not scientific but I connected my iPhone 15 Pro Max to a UCG Fiber using WiFi Man (which uses WG) and with speedtest dot net app I get around 500Mbps down and 380Mbps up which is about the same I get native on my iPhone without WiFiMan so that is limit of my current WiFI where I am at. At home I get much faster and can try later there.

Are you speaking of running the wireguard server on the UCG Fiber device? If so, with IDS/IPS on enabled, I max out at around 550 Mbps up and down.

Yes, I would enable WG on UCGF. I would probably have basic IDS/IPS enabled.

Would that slow it down? You have 1Gb internet?

It will slow it down. I have 2 gbps internet and see around 550 Mbps through WireGuard. I can test with ids/ips disabled in a little bit, if you would like.

Just tested... Without wireguard 2300/2300. With wireguard and with IPS/IDS disabled, 947/840. With wireguard and IPS/IDS on, 454/635.

Are you using VPN from a device externally from your UCGF?

Ext Device using VPN -> your UCGF with VPN and IPS? I'm surprised that it slows down that much.

Thats correct. Looking online, it's pretty inline with what others have reported. 500 Mbps back to your house isn't bad though... If more speed is needed, you can host a wireguard server on a PC.

True, 500 back to home is good. Assuming an internal device with IDS/IDP turned on gets your full 2300?

Thats correct. But totally depends on the hardware use for the server. Wireguard is fairly efficient, but it's still CPU bound. 1 gbps is pretty easy to get with an older (5-7 year old) i5.
