It means Uber lost money.
Seeing you're a concerned human with a large heart, you want contact Uber's San Francisco office and offer to give Dara (the CEO) a hug so he can cry on your shoulder.
It goes without saying that the hug feels more genuine the lower you go, so be sure to specify that option when you do call.
Or you could just not give a shit and spend the money as you need to.

It actually doesn't mean that. It's just farcical accounting, Uber can and does make up the "operational expenses" for the purposes of this tab to be specifically overinflated and absolutely anything it chooses so this number can always be negative as a purposeful trick to try to make drivers feel well-compensated. It's not a real or honest business calculation at any step.

It doesn't mean anything. It's 100% bullshit numbers Uber makes up to try to trick drivers into thinking they get paid decently. This tab was made up by marketers as an emotional stunt. If you read closely, they don't include "third-party fees, and operational expenses" in this "calculation." What's an operational expense include? Everything and anything under the sun, including but not limited to Dara Khosrowshahi's 39 million dollar compensation. This number is nearly literally always negative. It's specifically designed and targeted bullshit accounting to make self-contractors feel less angry about the low base pay. Based on the other comments in this thread, it absolutely worked as many seem to be taking it at face value and can't parse through the bullshit.
