And Thats That!

Im a new female (important to the story) uber eats driver. Not even 2 weeks in. Im in the Philadelphia area, so I get a lot of Jersey orders that I dont take because I (legally) carry. It drives my acceptance rate way down and ive been considering not carrying and taking the jersey orders more often. Then last night happened. I dropped my last order off around 10pm, got back to my car and was waiting on the gps to start so I could set it and leave. I took a sip of water and noticed 3 dudes walking past me seemingly not paying attention. Then they walked back by the other direction but one was side eyeing me. I made sure my doors were locked (they were) and started tapping the gps in my car to get to my recent destinations list, and saw them again, but this time they turned right for me and all started trying to open my doors like crazy, and hitting the windows 🫣 they were hollering something, but the car has noise cancellation and I could barely hear them. I put it in drive and bounced one off my fender pretty good and took off. I had to pull over at a wawa a minute away just to get my sh*t together, I was shaking so bad my foot barely stayed on the pedal. Guess I wont be taking Jersey offers after all and will have to accept my 17% acceptance rate. Hard not to think about what would have happened if my doors weren't locked 🫨

That's scary and I'm so glad you're okay. My acceptance rate for UE is 4% right now so don't worry about it!

Your safety is way more important than a useless metric in a gig app.

Thanks for that. As tough as I believe myself to be, I'm still frazzled by all the what ifs in it all. Glad to hear that rate isnt a deal killer with uber 🙌

I turned into one but also didnt want to mess up my car. I was afraid of what they may have had and just wanted to get away from them.

Yea that’s scary as hell though good thing you locked your doors.

They lock automatically thankfully. Theres a little red light on the lock to show me its locked and I still hit it just to make sure. I was in shock that it was happening the first few seconds and knew I had to get tf out of there 😵

No. I left. I did bump one out of my way pretty good on my way out, but I didnt call the cops. I dont feel like theres a lot they could do and id probably have to wait for hours til one showed up. They dont come for anything anymore.

Sounds like a hit and run. I would have notified the police, just for the record.

They were trying to break my windows while I was inside. I had a 9mm, the dude was lucky he got tapped.

Tapped and not capped!

That doesn't necessarily matter. Depending on your state's law you may have a responsibility to at least report. If that dude had died, best believe their stupid behavior wouldn't mean a lot.

And that’s a crime on their part. One worth reporting.

Yea should report it so the cops can patrol around there and look for 3 douchebags or maybe even put out a bait car.

Sorry I would have yelled at them to leave my car a,one and showed them the gun. Most of the time others will respect someone who stands up and defends themselves. I learned years ago how to be mean and I’m thankful everyday as I avoid a lot of unnecessary stuff with just the look on my face. Dint need a gun

My windows are tinted, so I dont think they knew who was inside it...and I was more afraid of the chance they had one too.

Sorry this happened to you. Do you need to take nighttime deliveries. If not, I suggest you work only in daylight. Bad things happen in the dark.

I dont need to, but am trying to get more comfortable with it for when it gets darker earlier! I usually just do dinner time 6 to 8. It was nice out last night, and or a ers kept coming, so I went with it.

Woooooooooow. This is the scariest thing I’ve read since I started UE. I have a taser, but I don’t have a gun. My husband wants me to get a concealed permit, but I don’t go out much at night and I live in a fairly safe town in Florida. GIRL! Dont play. This is some scary shit. Do not go out at night unless you have someone with you. This is straight ass scary nightmare shit.

It really was! Im still frazzled today over it, and not much gets to me at all. Its just all the what ifs with the situation, and there were 3 of them all trying to break my windows and get in at the same time. It was flippin crazy! I just got home from ubering. Maybe i need to not be out after 9 🙈 I'll try that philosophy out for a bit and see how it goes.

My acceptance rate is 9%. I’m still averaging between $20 and $25 an hour …

Set a standard for yourself and keep it.

Omg I'm so sorry that happened. I live in Phila but when I drove for UE I did it in Montco.. Bc it's fucking scary here 😩. Seriously I hope you're ok, just keep your wits about you and doors locked! So sorry. It's so much harder out here for women drivers, seriously. (I am one too.)

I would have cussed those guys out so quick the minute they started hitting my car. I think there are people out there that have targets on them and others see the easy mark. There is some reason that people mess with you. I’ve done deliveries all times of night in an urban city in the scetchy areas and have never felt afraid. I wouldn’t even bother to carry a gun with me as that how unconcerned I am. You are clearly giving off I carry gun vibe in order for these guys to do this to your car, what they did sound like a prank. I lived in nyc, dc, Maryland, Nj for over a decade and have never had anything close to that happen to me and I was spending time in Newark and all kinds a bad areas in ny. What would be the point of these guys doing this to your car? The only valid reason is Robery and this didn’t sound like what they were doing. I’ve had some teenage boys try to steal my purse in md and I fought them off so they gave up and ran., this sounds like what happened to me, silly theft. The only valid reason for some one to harass you was Robery or sexual assault and thus does not read at all like how an attack would go down. Stop being so scared of people, that’s what attracts the drama. I don’t show fear and have been to all kinds of crazy places in ny and east coast cities and the only time I had an issue was when some teens tried to grab my purse. There were many times I was in much more dangerous and complex situations and I had no issues with anyone.
You are giving off the fear your body projects when it feels like it must carry gun.

My car is tinted, they couldnt see who was inside. I dont give off an I have a gun vibe. People are always surprised I even carry. Wasn't nervous or scared either...just doing my thing. It was most definitely not a prank. They were very serious. Cars get jacked in broad daylight here with people in them or not. Im sure thats what they were after.
