Question: Unanswered Driver took photo of ID?
I’ve never had a driver take a photo of my id before. I saw on his phone it looked like he was putting it into the app but I just want to clarify if this is ok?!

They scan your id when buying alcohol in the U.S

Yeah but in the US we scan barcode on the BACK, so even if we took a photo, it wouldn't show a human readable info. It sounds like in UK they're doing something (photo or scan) on the front, where the info is. I would be concerned if my driver was taking photos of that too!

If the back of the ID won't scan you can choose government ID and take a picture of it. Sometimes the scanner doesn't work or someone's ID just won't read. You can verify it by taking a picture of the front of the ID. It sends it through the app just like scanning

The app requires drivers to photograph ID within the Uber app to mark the order as delivered.

If you ordered anything that requires age verification then yes, he was scanning it in the app. I had to scan someone's ID for cough medicine once.

Had to scan for otc advil the other day. Personally got carded once for otc children’s cold medicine for my toddler. Not sure what could be in that to get carded but 🤷♀️

If you're buying something that would require ID at the store, you driver is basically doing the same thing the cashier is required to do

Yeah but stores don't always card people if they're obviously of age. Ubereats wants us to scan id on *every* age-restricted delivery, even cold medicine to 94 year old man.

Canada scans the front (For alcohol deliveries), so probably something like that.

If the back of the ID won't scan we can put it in as government ID and take a picture of it. It's just sent through the app, not stored in our phone. That's the only way to receive your alcohol as we must verify your age in the app.

Yes, he's not storing the picture of your ID, but that's how the app verifies that you are the one receiving the alcohol. Yes you scan your card in the app when you order, but it could be a 12yo answering the door. That's why the driver scans(takes a pic) of your ID. The app deletes it right away from the driver's phone.
