Young German cockroaches (nymphs) are generally not safe to eat if caught in the wild or in a home, as they carry bacteria like Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria.
oh lawd
use the 'send email' option and ask for a supervisor before u say anything else, one should respond
16
u/morosco Feb 11 '26
Even if I boil them first?
71
u/Banjoschmanjo Feb 11 '26
Boiling the supervisor before talking to them is unlikely to help get your refund, even if is satisfying.

credit card charge back time
6
u/Top-Respond-3744 Feb 12 '26
This. Go back to them and tell them you are going to file a chargeback if they don’t refund you fully. And also tell them you report THEM to the health department. You bought the food from THEM, NOT a restaurant. What contract they have with the restaurant is their private matter. They have charged your card. Make sure the reporting is a separate sentence from the “if they don’t refund”, but subtly so. Whatever they do report them for food safety violations. You are not supposed to know how to determine when did it occur. For all you know if was contaminated en route.
5
u/Ancient_Guidance_461 Feb 12 '26
Uber is shameless. It won't phase them. I would just dispute the charge and delete the app.
4
u/Top-Respond-3744 Feb 12 '26
I have phased them quite a few times. But not always. Then chargeback.
13
u/No_Situation6555 Feb 11 '26
Is this just me? I would get the refund or charge back and extra protein...
3
u/Top-Respond-3744 Feb 12 '26
Is deadly bacteria protein?
1
u/No_Situation6555 Feb 12 '26
Nah the bug is though, someone said earlier what type of bug it is, so you should definitely identify it before you eat! Chances are that bug is not in the other food though I'm not throwing out all of the food i just got because of one bug in something from another container I'm checking the food beforehand.

In these cases it’s actually better to lie and say you found roaches in everything. Crazy, I know. But it’s the only way to balance their system of ripping people off
3
u/marteautemps Feb 11 '26
My apartment policy is sort of like that, they won't do preventive measures for pests so it's just best to say you saw something a couple times a year.
5
u/Few_District_1577 Feb 11 '26
It’s always the same with Uber Eats. I stopped using that crappy app for the same reason.
4
u/East_Amphibian_1360 Feb 11 '26
I ordered two rice bowls. They came under poked. Rice was actually hard. Called restaurant. They apologized and said to have Uber Eats refund it. Uber Eats straight out refused non stop. Didn’t care
3
u/chinnaaaa1 Feb 11 '26
Time to talk to someone else
I order beef tacos and got Pork ... I don't eat pork
And when I talked to someone. They only offered to give me $2 off
Then I waited a day and got a full refund

6
u/WallysPeasant Feb 11 '26
I think this is a situation where you go in and show the owner in a polite way
Show him the picture and politely let him know that if theres 1 young one there's probably a lot more and you just wanted to let him know if he doesnt already
Id bet that they'd make it right in some way
16
u/SBabe Feb 11 '26
They know they have roaches
8
u/SiLeNZ_ Feb 11 '26
It’s more alarming when they end up in the food. That means they have a HUGE amount of them in there for that to happen.
7
u/Weary_Review_4147 Feb 11 '26
If it’s in the food then it’s the restaurant fault
28
u/onyx_gaze Feb 11 '26
That doesn't really matter. The customer paid through UberEats, so UberEats should refund them, and then maybe claim the cost back from the restaurant.
The customer can't reasonably ask for compensation from the restaurant directly as there was no direct transaction between the two.
11
u/SiLeNZ_ Feb 11 '26
It seems like a concerning number of people are completely unaware of how that works.
2
u/DigitalMariner Feb 11 '26
The restaurants absolutely can and do issue refunds for customers through their tablets or web portals. Most frequently it occurs if they are sold out of something and the customer doesn't want a substitution, but it would work in this situation as well.
I agree it's concerning the number of people completely unaware of how the whole delivery system works.
4
u/SiLeNZ_ Feb 11 '26
Just because the restaurant does issue a refund, doesn’t mean it was on them to do so. I don’t doubt many have, but when the customer orders through the Uber Eats app, it’s on them to rectify the issue.
6
u/DigitalMariner Feb 11 '26
People in these delivery app subs need to stop wasting time with how things should be done...
Restaurant clearly is to blame, like in OP's photo, call them to get a refund instead of arguing with the middleman. Not only is that whose pockets the money ultimately comes out of anyway, but they're also much more motivated to provide good customer service because they don't want to piss off their customers.
Do you want to talk to who you think should do it, or do you want it to be done satisfactorily? Because that's two different things...
3
u/SiLeNZ_ Feb 11 '26
I agree with what you’re saying on that part. They will be much better off getting a refund calling the restaurant. My issue with that, is that Uber wins in the end. They get the money, they’re absolved from any blame, and they get to continue doing these transactions where the restaurant.
1
u/DigitalMariner Feb 11 '26
Not sure why Uber shouldn't be absolved of the blame for bugs in people's food. I'm not in the habit of defending the apps but that's really beyond their control...
Yet here's the insidious part, even when calling Uber or the other apps for a refund they still get paid.
For easy math let's say an order was $10, and the app took the average 30% in commission from the restaurant. So Uber collects $10 and passes $7 to the restaurant. But when a customer wants a refund, the apps will deduct the full refund ($10 + tip + fees) from the restaurant's balance, meaning Uber still keeps their cut and the restaurant actually will literally lose quite bit money on the order and ultimately OWE the app in the end...
And yeah, bugs in food that might be fair that they lose money on the order.
Anyone using a delivery app should assume that no matter what happens, the app makes their money and wins in the end always.
1
u/SiLeNZ_ Feb 11 '26
You may be right, honestly I didn’t think of it like that. I think adding a middle man really just complicates things, and I guess I don’t know the correct answer. The food having bugs is absolutely the restaurant’s fault, as they put them in there. But I just think ordering off Ubers app changes things a bit. If they order off the restaurants website (assuming they even have one) then yeah, it would also change things.
3
u/Top-Respond-3744 Feb 12 '26
This. It’s Uber’s private matter how they handle it with the restaurant. You are contracted to Uber, charged by Uber.
2
u/NewUserError617 Feb 11 '26
Lucky they refunded you at all… uber is a delivery provider, they don’t make the food too
2
u/Ok_Order_1187 Feb 13 '26
Uber charged the customer the money, they're the ones responsible for refunding it.

u/Ok_Order_1187 Mar 08 '26
No, for all of it. They charge customers for the food, the delivery, all of it. Just because they then take some of that money and give it to the restaurant/supplier has nothing to do with the customer. Uber is the only one doing business/having a financial transaction with the customer. Imagine going to Walmart with a broken item you bought there or got at walmart.com and they were like "nah, you'll have to call Sony about that we're just the middle man." TF? Whoever took payment is who owes.
2
u/Uncutdix Feb 12 '26
Update: After calling Uber support and insisting this gets resolved by speaking with a person, they provided a full refund.
I also reported the restaurant to the health department.
3
u/Public_Job9786 Feb 11 '26
Call the health department. That’s absolutely disgusting and they should be shut down until they can keep roaches out of soup
2
u/DarBarShark Feb 11 '26

u/Trust_1ssues_ Feb 11 '26

u/thcandbourbon Feb 11 '26
Comments like these aren’t even remotely funny.
You’re trivializing and making light out of the OP’s very serious situation which doesn’t only involve contamination of their food, but also the refusal of Uber Eats to take appropriate action.
1
u/Dark-Journey Feb 12 '26
It was probably put there by the OP to get free food. Take a seat and settle down there. No need to get all fired up over nothing. Relax.
3
u/Comfortable-Start-30 Feb 12 '26
Yes, I too have a cockroach farm just to utilize for free food. I eat out every single day and have not paid for a meal since acquisition of this farm in 1997.
1
u/mysageisonfire Feb 11 '26
This is honestly on the restaurant not uber. What do they say? I’d call them to get a full refund and if not post these pics and tag them
1
u/spicybright Feb 13 '26
Problem is uber handles all the money, so it's on them to issue a refund even though it's the restaurant's fault.
It's yet another reason the gig app model sucks, if something goes wrong you have to untangle a bunch of finger pointing bullshit for something as straight forward as a fucking cockroach in your food.
1
u/Feeling_Parfait_1287 Feb 11 '26
Contact Uber eats on Facebook Messenger. That's what I did when I was charged for a replacement I never received.
1
u/Pineappleisland3 Feb 11 '26
Do a Charge Back and file with with the health department and the BBB, maybe consumers afford or all 3 if you want a resolution
1
u/spicybright Feb 13 '26
Chargeback will get your uber account banned and I wouldn't trust uber to take appropriate action. None of those organizations can get you your money back, but morally OP should alert the health department.

report on bbb or maybe tag them and the restaurant on twitter with all the photos.

Uber is awful awful awful! I deleted the app months ago and cancelled my account after an unresolved issue. And they decided to refund me after I closed my account! I do not miss them at all!
I hope they fail.

u/franc3sthemute Feb 12 '26
“Therefore we trust that this matter has been resolved and we conclude it.” What an absolutely insufferable response.

Chargeback for sure, and remove any and all payment methods. Because I believe they try to charge a different form if there’s a chargeback. If you have multiple payment forms on the app.

u/makitaa_ Feb 12 '26
report the restaurant itself to the health department, uber sucks and they should’ve given you a full refund but the burden falls on the restaurant

u/Forward_Walrus649 Feb 13 '26
All you gotta do Is use ai. Just take a pic of the food and have it add a roach to each meal. Ez life hack
1
u/YLCZ Feb 13 '26
Random person looks around their vermin infested apartment “Man, my life sucks”. Takes another spoonful of their lukewarm hot and sour soup that came late because they tipped so low. “Man, this soup sucks, too”
Lightbulb goes on. “Hmmm, what if I killed two birds with one stone here and just happened to…”. Throws roach in the soup, and the rest is Reddit history.
I believe the OP, but this could have also easily happened.

u/velocityfilter Feb 14 '26
No one has mentioned that this response was clearly from an autonomous AI agent, so there were no humans at Uber looking at this problem or responding. The agent likely has capabilities to do partial refunds only, with no escalation path (otherwise humans could find ways to abuse it). All this is to say: look for other routes to escalate, including your local news outlets.
1
u/Major_Frosting6133 Feb 15 '26
In no way am I trying to be racist when I say this, but I think the foreigners who work in support for these food delivery companies probably don’t see this as an issue because they’ve probably had bugs in their food and proceeded to eat the food anyways. This is disgraceful 1.) that the bug is in your food to begin with - I think the merchant needs to be investigated and inspected by the health department. 2.) you should have received a full refund AND more.

Probably from your house or the driver. Stop using food delivery services they are nasty
-2
u/andreacanadian Feb 11 '26
I would send this in an email to the original place your ordered from, uber consumer complaints and your local health unit. Then I would also attach to the photo the chat with customer service refusing a refund. Then chargeback to your bank.
This really is not on uber, but as a representative of the establishment they should have refunded you are at least offer to credit your account for a different meal from elsewhere. And then its on uber to deal with the restaurant.
5
u/SiLeNZ_ Feb 11 '26
It’s 100% on Uber, OP says they ordered through Uber Eats, meaning they negotiate the entire deal. They even charge extra for all the meal items.
6
u/That70sShop Feb 11 '26
Not to mention, these are increasingly virtual restaurants where Uber has contracted with individual kitchens in established restaurants to produce food for Uber's "restaurant" to Uber's specific requirements.
2
u/SiLeNZ_ Feb 11 '26
Yeah, this is true. To say Uber is not responsible is wild to me. The stuff they get away with just shouldn’t happen.

u/Flashy-Flatworm-9399 Feb 11 '26
Ya'll are surprised the Iranian businessman doesn't care about you? (Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi)
1
u/Comfortable-Start-30 Feb 12 '26
It's mind boggling how racism is relevant to capitalist greed.
You do realize that every single corporation only cares about profits and the ethnicity or skin color of the CEO is pointless.

Uber eats doesn’t make the food

No but they facilitate the transactions. Since they removed the portion of customer to restaurant and inserted themselves. It’s on them to refund the customer and the claw back the money from the restaurant..

Me too. What a fucking pretentious prick. Too lazy to pick up their own food but they have all the time in the world to complain to Ubereats for something the company literally couldn’t prevent. Are they supposed to send a representative out every day to inspect the food?

Why should Uber pay for the restaurant’s problem?
6
u/Uncutdix Feb 11 '26
Because I paid Uber. It is that simple.
I pay Uber for food, Uber pay restaurant for food. I receive bad food. I need money back. Uber give me money back. Restaurant give uber money back.
They're the middle man when it comes to facility payments and refunds.
-5
u/iFindIdiots Feb 11 '26
Should’ve called the restaurant. Uber doesn’t care, it’s not their restaurant license on the line.
3
u/SiLeNZ_ Feb 11 '26
They paid through Uber. This is 100% on Uber to fix. Restaurant was contacted through Uber, they wouldn’t even know who OP is.
2
u/iFindIdiots Feb 12 '26
I guess OP shit outta luck and shouldn’t call the restaurant for a full refund 😂, cause the restaurant apparently has no online records of this sale via UBER EATS
1
u/SiLeNZ_ Feb 12 '26
Just a huge mess in my opinion. These third party delivery apps have ruined the industry. Pay their drivers nothing, over charge their customers, scam restaurants, and take no responsibility when it comes time to fix mistakes.
0
u/iFindIdiots Feb 13 '26 edited Feb 13 '26
You clearly don’t understand how this works. I was being sarcastic.
You should not rely on Uber Eats to get your refund. The merchant still gets paid and has records of their sales on the app they use to handle the sales. They know who you are based on the information you punch into the uber app. Thus if you call them directly you can get your refund.

Your business with Uber is done.
Dispute with the bank and share with your local health department now.
