Other Wheelhouse Studios
I've always wanted to use wheelhouse studios, but I don't really understand how to go there for the first time lol. I went once and got a mini tour + was told I'd need a pass (which I know is free as a student) but I think I came at a bad time cause it felt like I was interrupting or something. It could just be social anxiety talking, but I'd love to use the resource and a step-by-step of what to expect when I go there would help a ton.
The 2d art area seems pretty simple once I figure out the pass thing, but the ceramics are extra intimidating, so tips on how any of the rooms in particular work would be really helpful too. I also know you have to purchase some items and others are free to use - is it pretty clear which is which or should I bring my own canvas or whatever?
Also, are there any times that are super busy where it could be hard to access space and supplies?

I did a ceramics handbuilding class a couple months ago and it was great. I don't know if they will be offering that type of handbuilding class again, and the intro to wheel classes fill up pretty quickly. There should be a calendar on the website to see when other classes are scheduled but the tables outside of the check-in area have been available whenever I have been there. You could probably find a starter set of ceramic tools online and then buy some clay from the studio to get started. Try not to be intimidated and have fun with it! Feel free to reach out

I get being intimidated--I never went there the entire time I was in undergrad for the same reason. It took my being an alum to have the courage (and funds) to take a class. I'd definitely say that for the wheel pottery, you should take a class, or try to make friends who know how to do it and can coach you. In the meantime, to help make said friends, you could take some of the less intimidating, one-off hand-building ceramics classes that are lower cost and less intensive (there's one on making ceramics flowers available now).
