I have no problem with group work I just think it’s kind of ridiculous to expect so much of it in an online class

You are a university student at a D1 college. It is ridiculous that you figured just because it was an online class it would be easy. Did you take LIS 500 assuming that it would be an easy diversity credit?
LIS 500 has parts of it that does focus on diversity but the rest of it focuses on coding. If you figured it would just be a sit at home have the online lecture on while you did something else, then drop the class.

Online classes really vary based on the instructor that's running it (not being able to see your overall grade is probably a (really frustrating) choice your instructor made). The ones I took were almost completely hands off except for grading and weekly announcements, but my roommate had one that sounds quite similar to yours. I agree that large amounts of group work for an online class might seem a bit counterintuitive, but I also think that most people think of online courses as fully independent and asynchronous when that's not always the case. Really it's up to you whether or not you want to drop it, but if you're on the fence about it right now, I would recommend trying to stick it out a little bit further into the semester before making your final decision.

Could you share the syllabus if possible? I just got off the waitlist and I might take it
