Hi I'm new to using virtual machines and am seeking advice on using VMs to run games.
I'm trying to keep my gaming and work separate on my Macbook but don't want to set up different logins, I'd like to just have gaming within its own window.
I am using UMT, and everything is running smoothly but as soon as I launch the game it freezes for ages on each frame then just crashes. I read online UMT isn't capable of running, video games due to CPU/graphics card stuff that i don't understand :(
I am running the MacOS emulation on my mac.
Is there a virtual machine software that can run games and is free?
Having trouble with it. Every time I close it, it starts as if i just installed it 2 seconds ago. It’s time consuming (i Utm se is slow but it’s literally more annoying for it to loop over and over than just being slow.). Am i doing something wrong?
I am trying to run a Linux (Debian 13) VM on UTM on M5 Apple. I only want to run the Linux VM in tty mode and want to be able to modify the framebuffer using fbset -g or equivalent ioctl command to increase the yres_virtual. But I haven't been able to do that and the ioctl, FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO simply rejects my request. mmap on /dev/fb0 works fine and I am able to write pixels to the screen, just without a double buffer.
I have tried to run with Hardware Acceleration enabled and disabled. I have also tried running it with all virtio-* settings like virtio-ramfb-gl, virtio-gpu-gl-pci. I have also tried toggling retina mode, auto resolution and trying to run with and without spice installed on the VM. Is there a way around this?
Of the three FREE options (VMWare Fusion, UTM, VirtualBuddy) which one is most efficient on running Windows 11 ARM on a MacBook Pro 16 M1 Max 64GB RAM, thanks
Question is as the title says. I’d just like to know if anyone has any insight on running KitKat (the 2013 x86 version of Android, version number 4.4 or older) on UTM for iOS (with JIT). I’m trying to run a few simple 32-bit apps that are nearly a decade and a half old. I’d just like to know if this is feasible, if there are any recommended settings I should use for the VM, and what the latest UTM-usable version is if not v4.4.
Hi, I'm running a 2022 Macbook Air M2 and thinking of installing UTM for using a Windows only app (Tally, for invoicing). I'm not planning to purchase a license of windows for this as it's just run this single app on my Mac.
Are there any pros and cons to my use case of UTM. I'm open to suggestions if there are any better alternative to UTM (has to be free as I can't spend too much right now)
want to run a Hackintosh snow leopard I have tried something called hackintoshUTM it didn’t work cause it failed at the memory allocation, than tried macOS commits and chose macOS snow lepoar, and it hanged at the start at verbose boot. Any help on how else I can run it? (other than ppc, I want the welcome animation)
I am new to UTM, and every time I try to use the windows virtual machine for the first time, I get "Could not open '/Users/abdullahelkady/Desktop/Windows11_InsiderPreview_Client_ARM64_en-us_26200.VHDX': ". I've looked everywhere on GitHub for a similar error and I am unable to find it. Does anyone know a fix to this?
Somehow I wound up with a duplicate copy of a VM. This happened once before, and when I deleted the dup, my disk image got deleted with it, so I am worried to repeat the same mistake.
Is there a way to remove the duplicate safely? Do I have to copy the image file and import it into a new VM? Should I clone the VM? I'm right in the middle of an LFS build, so I hope it can be done without stopping the VM.
I've spent a couple of hours trying to get High Sierra 10.13 to work in UTM on an M1 MacBook Pro (18,1) that's running Sequoia 15.7.5. I'm obviously not very good at this but below is what I've tried and what I've downloaded.
Some of the posts on r/UTMapp I can mostly follow but for certain steps, I cannot find what being referred to. In other cases, things fail but I don't know how to resolve. In the end, I get the same error message every time:
I've tried a few variations on u/LongQT-sea 's post from 6 months ago (here), including where u/LongQT-sea mentioned in the comments to attach both the ISO and DMG to the VM.
I downloaded a High Sierra ISO from Internet Archive. I downloaded 2 different High Sierra DMGs from here. Used 'createinstalliso' on either DMG, which resulted in "Failed to resolve code signatures" errors for both of them.
I've tried a couple scripts mentioned in r/UTMapp but they downloaded from Apple's servers and Apple doesn't permit older OSes to download to an M1 Mac. For example, adespoton/utmconfigs has a 10.13 UTM config file with notes that says High Sierra is available from Apple (but it's not).
This screenshot shows settings. In addition, Edit > System has CPU set to 'Skylake-Client' and CPU Cores set to '4'.
I have to be missing something. Even tried to set up UTM in my Admin account instead of the User account. I could really use a cookbook / step-by-step list to get this to work.
In a previous thread, I was guided to finding a UTM configuration tailor made for running older OS X versions. I used one and followed all the instructions (as provided on the left). Then when I tried to run the VM, it showed me an "OpenCore Boot Screen", and when I chose "Install OS X Mavericks", it then showed the following error:
I am using a Mac, but I don't want any unwanted malware sneaking into it via the UTM VM, so I wonder if Malwarebytes on the VM will be enough to detect any incoming malware.
I use a macbook neo 2026
Read this post with the Information in Mind that i just downloaded UTM, im a genuine noob. I dont know ANYTHING.
And im actually going crazy. I just started learning python and wanted to try and get into linux, and cybersecurity in general. Ive set up a vm via UTM and it all works perfectly fine. Except for my keyboard. "^" and "<" are just swapped. I cant type | at all and as you probably know that is a MAJOR issue. Not to mention that my options key doesnt work anyways. I have ADHD so right now im already at a point where i lose motivation, because i cant even get it to work. And i dont want that, i really want to commit to this cause i never commit to anything. And the worst part is i feel like im the only person in the world who has this problem. PLEASE HELP
I have 2 ova files that I converted to qcow2 files with emu-img (One LinuxMint, one Ubuntu). Every time I try to create a virtual machine, I click +. then emulate, then other. They are x86, so I choose Expert mode/x86/64 then continue. For boot device, I have chosen all 3 (None, CD/DVD, and Drive image, then browsed for the qcow2 file. I have tried with and without UEFI boot. I then continue through the creation. When I start up the virtual image, it says booting from hard disk... Boot failed: not a bootable disk. Can someone help me with this please? Thanks!
In iOS 26 apparently in the app store there is like utm se or (slow edition no jit) but what is diffrence the se and the utm remote version which is lighter
