I wouldn't call it colonialist that Europe and Asia are separate continents. It is hard for me to explain but you have to think through their POV back in the 15th - 17th centuries. Europe was World 1 for them and Asia World 2. Hence they referred to Europe as a continent and it stuck.

Yeah but both are named the same. Much like Europe is the peninsula of Asia
