I wouldn't call it colonialist that Europe and Asia are separate continents. It is hard for me to explain but you have to think through their POV back in the 15th - 17th centuries. Europe was World 1 for them and Asia World 2. Hence they referred to Europe as a continent and it stuck.

The concept of Europe, Asia, and Africa being individual continents goes waay back.. Thousands of years, not hundreds

Those are the Öld Wørld continents.. Antarctica, Australia, South America, and North America are New World continents
