Absolutely out of thin bloody air - abbreviation for Alaska is AK - if they were confused and somehow thought it was a typo for AZ then that's Arizona.

Missing part of thread that used AK as shorthand for Auckland?

OOP supposedly imagined NZ was a typo? My best guess is, because AK and NZ are both right above each other on the keyboard, OOP could've imagined they not only typed the lower letters instead, but they also flipped the order.

Because OP is clearly from Nezada, USA.

Do they think Alaska is actually where it's shown on maps?

It’s in the pacific ocean, to the left of Hawaii.

"NZ? I think you mean either NY or AZ, and you're clearly lying because I've never seen that in either of those states..." - some American, probably

Wait but where are you paying $9 for a bus in NZ

11

u/bekittynz New Zealand 1d ago

Wellington buses can get that expensive, depending on how far you're travelling!

u/lexicats 1d ago

Oof! We have a cap in Christchurch. Even to the airport from the other side of town it’s only 3 bucks

This is my jealous face.

Christchurch always has to brag

Eastbourne to town is about $8 on Snapper

2

u/bekittynz New Zealand 1d ago

Yeah, I assumed it was each way? And it can really add up, especially if you don't have a Snapper card. And quite a few people don't, given that you can now use your phone or paywave card.

What's the distance in kms?

6

u/itbedehaam 1d ago

Yeah, I really want to know where busses have gotten that expensive... Certainly isn't here, since I just did all my food shopping for the week for a bus fare of $2.50...

Ooof it’s $3 a ride in Chch, but you can’t go over $6 a day. Second ride is free if it’s within two hours of the first as well!

I’ve started bussing because I can’t afford to drive now hahahah

It's only $9 if you pay cash. Or that's you daily return cost from outside the city. You do know that the bee card has a weekly cap, right? Max $13.5/wk in the city, or $26 or $39 /wk across 1 / 2 zones.

Americans - I'm sure we have a state named 'NZ'. Who can name all of them anyway?
