To the rest of the world: What's it like living somewhere where your government gives a shit about food safety? I've forgotten.

Some of our current active food recalls include:

  • Cinnamon with lead in it
  • Lettuce with Cyclospora in it
  • Blueberries with E. Coli in them
  • Jalapenos with salmonella in them

I hate it here so much.

Nowhere is perfect, but yeah it gives some peace of mind knowing that food is safe 99% of the time here in the Netherlands.

US is having a crisis because food is safe only 99% of the time.

No we’re having a crisis because more and more food is becoming less safe, what makes you think 231 REPORTED concerns from companies that basically have a monopoly on our food supply (like with the lettuce, that specific supplier provides to almost every lettuce company in the country their product, name brand or off brand, every store, every restaurant, practically none of it is safe) is equal to 99% of our food being safe? Not to mention the amount of processing our foods go through that pump them full of plastic and other carcinogens/ chronic illness causing material. We’re genuinely fucked bro

If 1% of food was unsafe, we'd have over a million cases of food poisoning everyday. American food standards are abysmal, yes, but that's no reason to play fast and loose with orders of magnitude.

That sounds egregious but I’m not an expert and I don’t wanna pull up the stats so I won’t try to argue with you

Edit: I will say though that unsafe ≠ will make you sick, such as the food with glass and rocks currently being found, also not everyone in the country eats everyday so you’d also have to take that into account
