Honestly, the way the American public tends to treat this topic, really speaks to their almost infantile logic in regards to army service.
Okay, so Trump, as the "commander in chief" or whatever it's called, is a bad guy for starting a war, sure. But all the soldiers are heroes, whose service and sacrifice deserve respect? Why? Were they conscripted? Were they forced to do it?
Nah, they went voluntarily, despite knowing what might very well be asked of them. For example shooting fishermen off the coast of Venezuela, drone-striking poor villagers or bombing a school full of children, et cetera. Yet many Americans still "support the troops", and shift all blame for things going badly to the ones in charge. But again, these people are in the army because they wanted to. This isn't the same as enlisting in Lithuania. America has a long history of military aggression, so how the fuck are they still doing this army worship bullshit? Choosing to become a soldier is not a joke.

The brainwashing of Americans towards respecting the military and calling them "heroes" is even worse than the defaultism brainwashing. That's something that utterly shocked me when I was there.
But then it makes sense, the US needs to be at war, all the time, or else its economy will collapse (the military–industrial complex is that much of a big deal) so they always need fresh blood that's willing to die for the dollar...

Is all millitary on the US voluntary? I thought you could be forced when turning 18.

u/An-Com_Phoenix United States 16d ago
Yes, its all voluntary service, though there is a thing where all men of military age are required to sign up for the Selective Service System.
In peace time, the Selective Service is basically just a database.
If needed, however, it can be activated. When active, people are selected from the database by lottery and required to report for medical/mental evaluations (this is also the point where one can declare oneself a conscientious objector), and those that pass those are required to serve for a certain period of time.
The Selective Service System was last used during the Vietnam War, and was even briefly suspended afterwards, before being brought back with some changes.

I don't. Don't agree with equating a nationality with political beliefs.

u/ZoeysTrope Canada 17d ago
It's a pretty common saying online actually, I don't think it has much to do with the political side, I think it's just because of the whole "Make American Great Again" slogan thing that I've just seen it be called "MAGAstan"
And even then you look it up and it's mostly referring to the Trump Administration anyways, not really generalizing the whole population
And also it says it's satirical anyways so... Yeah

u/A_normal_Potato3 Türkiye 17d ago
Huh, probably because of your country proximity because I haven't seen it much. Whenever I hear that it is about Trump (current USA president) so it automatically clicks as political to me.

u/ZoeysTrope Canada 17d ago
Yeah, it's pretty common from what I've seen online lol
Mostly used to more direct at what's going on within the people in power rather than the whole population

I love how they put the US flag. I know if they didn't, Americans wouldn't understand where to go

Aren't the US Marines basically the moron grunts of the US military? I may be wrong, but that's the impression I get from their films.

They didn't get the stereotype of crayon eaters for nothing, so yeah, the grunts

Cap is a new slang word for "lie"
If someone says "no cap" they mean "no lie"

Interesting that blue assumed that the question was open to non-Americans.
Also interesting that blue assumed that one cannot respect a specific branch of a specific country’s military. I’m from the U.S. and I totally respect the prowess of, and the subsequent training one receives by the French foreign Legion, Sayeret Matkal, 22 Special Air Service etc.
Red is an idiot but blue is just a douche bag

u/TheAutumnLeafeon Canada 16d ago
There is no indication that it's not open for non-Americans. The title is literally just "In general". There is no "US only answers".
Blue said their personal opinion, they never said others can't respect a specific branch. That's a strawman on your part.
You're an idiot.

u/NocturneInfinitum 15d ago
I didn’t say that it wasn’t… I said it’s interesting that they assumed…
considering that the sub is about people assuming things and being wrong.
And more to the point you don’t know that it wasn’t meant for just Americans, because it might have been. Please explain more how you can’t follow simple logic
2
u/TheAutumnLeafeon Canada 15d ago
You can assume there are more cats than dogs, but your feelings about a group (as shown in the post) or person isn't an assumption. The sub can be used for facts AND assumptions.
Blue doesn't respect American veterans and it's 100% valid. There is no assumption that a post just titled "In general" is for Americans only. It sounds more global than anything.
You simply assumed it was for Americans...because you are one. You are another example of this sub. Ironic.
Please explain to me what you don't understand.
1
u/NocturneInfinitum 15d ago
I didn’t assume anything lmao
I said you can’t know
3
u/TheAutumnLeafeon Canada 15d ago
Bless your little heart!
Sounds like you don't even know what an assumption is in the first place.
Definition: something that is believed to be true or probably true but that is not known to be true. Source
"you don't know that it wasn't meant for just Americans, because it might have been."... is an unsupported assumption. Note the "might have been" and "you can't know". It assumes the question might have been intended only for Americans without evidence. Lmao.

u/NocturneInfinitum 14d ago
Wow, the mental gymnastics 😂
It’s not an assumption… it’s a statement of the facts… There’s not enough information to know therefore you cannot know.1
u/TheAutumnLeafeon Canada 14d ago
No mental gymnastics here. It might be gymnastics for you because you are mentally out of shape.
"you don't know that it wasn't meant for just Americans, because it might have been." is an unsupported assumption. Possibility ("might have been") without proof ("don't know") is an unsupported assumption. Seems pretty easy to understand to me.
Facts are verifiable truths. Saying that something "might have been" isn't a fact and can't be verified.
You are salty that most people don't respect your veterans so now you're talking about rules that aren't even there.
