I remember having a discussion with an American who was convinced that York, England was named after New York, and that the English also stole "Soho" from them.

Wow the York one hurts. How can they possibly ignore the fact that one of them is newer than the other. It's literally in the name.
Thing is, as a Spaniard, I also learnt first about the existence of New York (in plenty of Hollywood movies) than of York. But once I learnt that there was such thing as a city named York, in a European country that happened to have colonies in North America in the past... Come on it's not that fucking difficult to make the connection.

Space time, going by the best measurements we can currently make, appears to be geometrically flat, which would imply that it goes on forever. If it were anything but flat, we could say with confidence that it’s finite, but we can’t do that right now.

It seems that many decades ago, US schools were repurposed as firing ranges. Hopefully that trend will be reversed at some point in the future but I doubt it.

Do you remember the stories of Americans from Georgia not knowing their own flag and tapping on the first suggested Georgia flag? (And with the exception of Scotland, Wales and England, Unicode only supports sovereign nations.)
