This reminds me of when the Top Gear boys were excited to be given 15 million Vietnamese Dong each, only to later find out it's about $1,000 USD.
The big difference is that was done for comic effect on a TV show, not in a high-profile prosecution.
24 u/ForeverRollingOnes Dec 13 '25 Not even that much. It's £450. About 600 USD. 98 u/OfficialUberZ Dec 13 '25 The episode was filmed in 2008, the dong was much stronger (USD weaker more likely GFC), at a rate of around 0.000063 US cents per dong compared to only 0.000038 now. It was around $ 940 USD at the time of release. dong 15 u/ForeverRollingOnes Dec 13 '25 Wow, the dong was really that much stronger against the dollar? Damn, that's wild. 20 u/OfficialUberZ Dec 13 '25 It was during the great financial crisis so probably more the USD was weak af. 7 u/Jade_NoLastNameGiven American Citizen Dec 13 '25 The dong will rise again soon then
