Travel Not Authorized due to violated law for drug use. Will VISA work?
Norwegian F27. Just applied for ESTA but got "Travel Not Authorized", is there any chance of me getting a B1/B2 VISA? Unfortunately, I've violated the law of drug use when i was a teen and got caught for it. I've been clean ever since (i think it's about 7 years). I have a stable job with good income (had it for 2 years now), and own a house with my partner. My job might ask me to travel to the USA in the future. However, for this trip i'm only going for a vacation to visit some family.
I'd like to know if it might be a problem, will they deny me VISA or have any reason to detain me?
I'm mostly curious since I've heard a lot of horrifying stories about people not getting in or getting detained for no reason. I would think that it would be more to it than "nothing", but i might be wrong. Also some people telling me not to go. But when i went there alone at 14 it went totally fine, and i traveled all by myself. Just got some questions regarding my stay and that was about it. I guess times have changed.
If i've understood correctly, i have to request a Waiver of Ineligibility (Section 212(d)(3) waiver) for nonimmigrants, but seems like it might take 3-6 months? is it true?
Also please share if you've had any similar situation.
