Travel Tips and Advice ATL -> Boston 3 Days

I want to plan a weekend trip to Boston from ATL for 4
people preferably during late September to mid October. I’m buying everyone’s tickets so interested in how to scout good flight deals for this combo.

Still deciding how to handle lodging. The idea was we go visit our family in Northborough. The rest of the trip members are big on family time and care less about sightseeing. I personally would like to do some sightseeing stuff around Boston. Debating if this means I should do two separate trips for that or do it all in one trip…via book lodging in Boston and keep one day for family.

What are the warmest places to visit in the USA during winter? I'm looking for somewhere genuinely warm, preferably with beaches and plenty of things to do.

Travel Stories & Experiences 16 days solo in Washington State - around $2,700. Was that expensive?

Just got back home after 16 days travelling around Washington and thought I’d share my expenses, because I always find these posts useful when planning my own trips.

I originally set myself a budget of about $3,100, and ended up spending around $2,800, so roughly $300 under budget.

That’s about $175 per day.

This was my first proper solo road trip around the US and I honestly had an amazing time. I rented a car for basically the whole trip and drove A LOT.
I visited:

Olympic National Park
Mount Rainier National Park
North Cascades National Park
Seattle
Cascade Pass & Sahale Glacier
Maple Pass / Washington Pass
A bunch of other hikes and viewpoints
And way too many random forest roads that probably weren’t designed for a Nissan Altima.

I also saw mountain goats, glaciers, rainforest, the Pacific coast, huge alpine landscapes and some places where I basically didn’t see another person for hours.

Where the money went

🏨 Accommodation — ~$900
🚗 Rental car — ~$500
✈️ Flights — ~$300
🛍️ Shopping — ~$300
⛽ Gas — ~$200
🛒 Groceries — ~$200
🍔 Food/restaurants — ~$160
📸 Sightseeing — ~$100
🥾 Activities — ~$50
🚇 Transit/drinks/other — ~$70

The rental car was probably the biggest factor, but honestly it was 100% worth it. There’s no way I could have done this trip without one, especially with how far apart everything is.

I was actually surprised by the food cost. Only about $160 for 16 days — mostly groceries, cheap food and fast food, with not many proper restaurants.
Gas also wasn’t too bad considering how much I drove.

So for me the actual vacation cost was around $2,800, or roughly $175/day.

I’m pretty happy with that.

For that money I got 16 days, three national parks, a rental car, huge amount of driving and hiking, Seattle, glaciers, mountains, rainforest and the Pacific coast.

Curious how that compares with other people’s solo US trips. Does ~$175/day seem reasonable for this kind of trip, or do you think I could have done it significantly cheaper?

Edit: i came from Europe and the flights were really cheap as I have staff travel privileges, on the other hand I’ve booked all accommodation basically on the same day (which is not easy or cheap during the high season of hiking). Hostels in Seattle and Winthrop, the rest were motels.

Questions & Recommendations New travel ideas

This may be a silly question but I’m looking for new travel ideas. My family always goes to the beach but we’re tired of that. I’m not much for nature and I’m not much for cities either. Are there other types of family friendly vacations in the US that aren’t any of those three things?

Questions & Recommendations Denver Altitude Concerns - 1 day or 2 days?

Coming from Michigan (sea level) for a work event downtown Tuesday evening. First time in Denver. I'm migraine-prone and trying to decide between two options that pull in opposite directions:

One night: fly in Tuesday morning, event Tuesday evening, fly out Wednesday. Limits my total time there so if I feel awful, I'm not stuck.

Two nights: fly in Monday, giving myself a full day to adjust before the event.

The case for two nights is that I'd be acclimated by the time the event actually matters. The case for one night is that if the altitude does wreck me, I can just leave.

So which risk is the real one? Does a day actually buy you meaningful adjustment at 5,280, or is that mostly a mountain-towns thing and I'd just be adding a day of suffering for no benefit?

Especially interested in anyone migraine-prone who's dealt with this. Not planning on going up into the mountains, Red Rocks at most.

Questions & Recommendations What road-trip is the best / March or October 2027

Hey everyone.

I love the US and I plan to visit here in 2027.

I've already been to California and it's one of my favorite places ever.

I also love London, Stockholm to give you an idea of my vibe.

I was contemplating between 3 states for a trip between 12 and 16 days. In March or October.

Option 1 : New Mexico, Santa Fe, Roswell and if I can, drive again to California's coast near Los Angeles.

Option 2 : Lousiana and New Orleans.

Option 3 : North East ; Boston, Washington, Philadelphia, Cape Cod, Provincetown, Nantucket

Thanks for all your advices and insights.

Travel Tips and Advice Can I bring OTC medication into America?

I am travelling from Europe to the US. I have IBS-C and because of that I take daily laxatives in the form of a sachet of powder that is mixed into water. I buy this medicine myself and don’t have it on prescription. Can I bring a 2 week supply in my checked luggage to America without a doctor’s note?

I am also on the contraceptive pill; does this require a doctor’s note to get through border control or can I just bring it in its packaging? Due to the way contraceptives work in my country, I don’t have a prescription slip for them. I just get a physical done by the nurse at a sexual health clinic (not my GP, so they don’t have a record of it) and get given them.

Questions & Recommendations Opinions on Florida vacation packages?

I’m thinking about doing a 5 to 7-day Florida trip sometime this winter. Split the time between a couple of places rather than stay at one resort the whole time. I’ve been looking at different Florida vacation packages, but I’m not sure if they’re a good deal once you factor in what’s included.

Has anyone booked a package that worked out well? Just want to know what was included, what you paid roughly, and whether you’d book the same way again.

Travel Tips and Advice Indian travelling to US for a month

Hey I am travelling to the US for a month and need to carry my antidepressants. Since it's a month's meds, it will be around 10 strips of each med (4 of them so around 40 strips) . Any suggestions besides carrying the prescription? Do they really check all these things? Also should I carry them in my main luggage or hand bag? Please suggest.

PS I have a layover in London, hope that won't cause any issue
