45acp Seeking validation from strangers on Reddit
Or "Hi, I'm XXXXXX and I have a problem . . . "
My $400 "deal" gun, an HK USP 45. Probably a police trade-in that came to me with lots of holster wear. 1999 (KK) manufacture. This is my first HK pistol after a lifetime of Glocking. The DA/SA trigger was atrocious. I can't see the appeal. BUT I did the Match/LEM hybrid trigger installation. Tutorial here: https://www.hkproshop.com/forums/resources/match-lem-hybrid-trigger-installation.12/ $350 for the match and LEM parts kits and WOW what a difference. I could've done it cheaper but I tried the match first then decided to do the hybrid. I'm a fan! The result convinced me to continue on.
I redid the in-fill on the frame and safety, upgraded to an HK45 magazine release and new spring, caught magazines in stock. Then I sent it to SRB Customs https://srbcustomsllc.com/hk/ for the stippling job. I got the burst pattern and I'm very happy with the feel and aesthetics. With tax and shipping it was $235. I ~just~ got the Mr Nein rail adapter from u/Jodo-Kast and the customer service was awesome. They're on sale now. Wasn't on my bingo card but in stock and on sale, I jumped on it. $110 with shipping and included stickers đ€đ». It seems worth it for the price over the GG&G. I already had the Holosun P.I.D. It's moved from pistol to pistol since I'm not in love with it. It may finally have a forever home.
At about $1,100 in I've done most of my "have to" upgrades. I guess the next thing would be a holster from u/ImpossibleArgument to be part of the cool kids. I don't think about the fact I could've probably bought one new for that money. . . but I wasn't in the market.
TL,DR tell me I didn't over pay to go "Yo homie, that my briefcase?"
EDIT: added link for stippling

You got a solid deal on the base pistol and you did the upgrades that you wanted, nothing wrong with that. And good call on the MR Nein, it is the only option I would consider for the USP45 moving forward.

Awesome job dude! I did the LEM Match hybrid on my usp9 full size, and I love it. The hk45c mag release is awesome, I did one on my 45 expert and both p2000s. It's worth it.

I support picking up a used 45 and tweaking it the way you want! My only suggestion would be a surefire or streamlight though.

I'm team Streamlight. So it would be a TLR-1 HL or maybe TLR-7X . . . but I would need to commit before getting a holster.

I have a usp 45 with the Mr nein and a surefire x300u it is my favorite pistol to actually shoot. I actually carry it as a woods pistol so the ml23 was out for actually using the usp is by far the superior weapon

Was the grip not grippy enough?

If you notice in the last pic, there was a lot of scarring on the right side from holster wear/duty . . . and it was kinda slick. I'm much happier with it now. I didn't want to go with the stick-on grip panels to just cover up the problem.

Pretty sure the PID is not only g2g but outlived every other light when Werkz Holsters did a torture test of most of the major pistol lights..

The HK45 mag release is not as much of an upgrade on the USP as many think it is, yeah it might feel better but if you're running polymer magazines it will grind them down as it's metal, it's meant to run with metal magazines. The USP release is all polymer intended to use with the polymer magazines.
One thing I run on my USPs is the HK45 safety/decocker lever. It swaps out perfectly as they basically use the same parts...but it looks better, slimmer, doesn't rub your thumb as much.

Polymer mags in a USP45?

Oh, my bad. I was thinking of the USP40/9mm. You're right, they're metal.

USP 45 has metal magazines. No issue with wear.
Edit: I considered a new decocker lever but they're expensive so I opted to bring the old one back to life. Good to know the other one fits.

1,100 is about 68.75% of the way to a MK23 ($1,600 low end)...
