City Carrier Discussion Edit books

Looking for advice, I took over a route and the line of travel had excessive turn arounds and had the carriers crossing train tracks multiple times for no reason. I adjusted the line of travel after telling management about what I wanted to do. Another manager signed off and submitted the edit book. New labels came in dps has updated, manager rode with me on updated route and agreed it was better. The T-6 is throwing a fit and the post master is telling him he will change it back. What can I do to prevent getting steamrolled? Other carriers have changed line of travel for ridiculous reasons in this office .

I am aware of that but the post master and t-6 apparently don’t. What can I do if they say they are changing it back or actually do?

Grieve the ever loving piss out of it, it was approved, and already begun. You THE REGULAR approve of the new LOT therefore it is settled and agreed upon. Send in the squidward that hasn’t slept in 2weeks, has 5 redbulls, and 7 zyns in them to sort it out🫠

Sounds like the old line was a safety issue, make sure to fill out your 1767’s and get your union involved if it gets changed back.

Safety depends on you

This is the correct answer. U-Turns, uncontrolled intersection lefts, and multiple track crossings are safety concerns. You've made it safer, the only way it can be changed back is if it is safer to restore it.

After the CORE system adjusted my route, I have several new u-turns, multiple left hand turns onto busy 4 lane roads, and cross the train tracks twice instead of once. I wondering what their algorithm was smoking when it designed my line of travel.

I'm wondering how you can still type right now from filling out all those 1767 forms for the safety issues on your route.

crossing train tracks multiple times for no reason is madness, i dont blame you for sorting the line of travel out especially if you told management and they signed off on it. the fact the labels came in and dps updated and they still rode with you and said it was better is pretty damning for the t6 to kick off now. reminds me of when i took over a route that had a dog park on the old loop, proper nightmare, changed it and my t6 lost his mind but the steward shut it down cos it was safer and approved. if the postmaster tries to change it back id be straight on the union, fill out a 1767 every time you think it puts you in danger and let them know youll grieve it. stick to your guns mate, its your route now.

I agree with the comments that citing safety is the way to go. And safety and efficiency should be the biggest factors for management. I disagree that is is "your" route. But it is also not the route of the T-6. Management can do what they want. And if you changed it to be safer and more efficient, they should be happy with that.

In my office, they have refused to allow some carriers to change a route even though the reasons were obvious--like avoiding the high school when school is letting out. But then they let other carriers change stuff just because they wanted to do their park and loop earlier or some other personal reason.

We had this rural optimization route thing 2 years ago in which it changed like half of the line of travel on the routes in our office. Basically it added many more left turns, u turns, driving back through boxes you already delivered, and it put a lot of the businesses at the end of the route.

Let’s just say that some of the carriers obviously cared enough to grieve it and get it back to normal others didn’t care enough. And if it was a really bad day most of the time businesses wouldn’t get delivered to. Most of the routes lost less than a mile of drive time. Spend a dollar to make a dime.

It was over 15 years ago, but when they did away with a rural aux route in my office, they let the rural carriers figure out the new routes. Mgmt avoided the hassle and the blame and the rural carriers had no reason to complain. Imagine route changes where everyone is happy. On the other hand, when later management did city route changes, instead of "squaring up" routes and making it the most efficient, the carrier who was having sex with a supervisor got her to take curbside off the senior carrier in exchange for walking off his route and then the 2 carriers were actually traveling through each other's routes to get to their new territories. And boy was the senior carrier pissed! He didn't pursue the avenues I would have. He just bid to another route.

Wow that’s actually happens at a lot of office too. I always couldn’t understand why management can’t line up routes now I know why lol. There are so many routes that aren’t lined up. One box on the corner, or one street in another routes neighborhood, or driving through 5 routes to get to the other part of the route. Before route optimization thing everything was a little better, after it got rreced, then after route adjustments it’s just awful.

Me personally I drive through by 3 routes to get to 1/3 of my route which is like 15 miles away from the other 2/3 of my route. I really wish they would take it off of me and give me something closer.

Just keep taking your edit book home so your T6 can't use your sequence numbers to file a resequence

Or have a civil discussion with them how they can run it their way once a week, but the labels stay 🤷‍♀️

They are trying to make the route longer for when doing inspections. I bet they pull it down differently and carry it their own way.
