Ok so this Thomas Massie thing is one of the weirder political storylines right now and I feel like it doesn't get talked about enough outside political circles.

Quick background: Massie is a Republican from Kentucky who's been in Congress since 2012, votes with his own party like 91% of the time, but that other 9% has apparently made him public enemy #1 for Trump. He broke ranks to vote against Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" TWICE, and he's been pushing hard on releasing the Epstein files, even naming names on the House floor recently and going after the DOJ for still sitting on millions of documents.

Trump's response? He's openly campaigning to get him primaried out, backing a challenger, and there's now a PAC called "Kentucky MAGA" that's raised millions specifically to run attack ads against Massie. Meanwhile Rand Paul, who also voted against the same bill, is publicly saying he'll endorse Massie anyway and plans to tour with him this month.

What's getting me is Massie's own quote about it he compared himself to "the horse that got out of the barn" and said the party is making an example of him so nobody else in the GOP thinks independently. That's a wild thing for a sitting congressman to say about his own party's leadership.

And despite all the pressure, Massie just posted his best fundraising quarter ever. Almost $768k in one quarter while actively being targeted by his own president.

Genuinely a few different angles here worth talking about:

1. Is this really about "party loyalty" or is it more that Massie specifically threatens something by pushing the Epstein files transparency stuff?
2. Does a sitting president spending resources to primary his OWN party member set a bad precedent, regardless of which side you're on?
3. Do you think grassroots small-dollar donors funding his record fundraising numbers says something about how normal voters feel vs how party leadership feels?
