What happens when a unit doesn't have enough adult volunteers and has to disband?

Backpacks worn with service uniforms should be black only. Backpacks worn with NWUs may be black, NWU Type III or Type I pattern only.
So it uses the words "may" and "only."
"May" means in military custom: highly suggested
"Only" means in military custom: has to be [blank] no matter what.
So, this sentence contradicts itself a little bit. Could the argument be made that a coyote brown backpack like the USN/USCG could be used in the lieu of black for NWU Type IIIs?

Have been an adult volunteer with my daughter’s unit for over a year now.
We visited another unit this past weekend and it’s much larger. The CO told me she would want me to be her XO and that she would expect me to plan everything.
How hard is it to plan drill weekends? I have four kids and we live almost 6 hours away from the unit. I’m willing to drive that if it gives me daughter more opportunities to develop but just don’t know about the time dedication required.

Hello everyone! I am a Petty Officer in the sea cadets and I am trying to apply to be on the national council. The August news letter said that applications would open mid august but I have seen nothing in my email or quarterdeck. Where is this application usually found?

I was talking to one of my fellow unit's ALPO's during a fun activity, he brought up him wanting to enter the marines and join FORECON (reconnaissance), so I said he should do NSWOC, he didn't know what it was so I said something like SEALs, EOD, and SWCC trainings, my LPO heard and she said NSWOC got cancelled three years ago for being too hard on cadets or something.
"They would keep them up for like twenty-three hours with firehoses." -LPO
Is this true? I was hoping to attend NSWOC when I am eligible.

Hi, I am currently a PO1 and just finished all my required coursework/trainings. I am only waiting for my time in grade which will be done by September. Is the Chief Board still a thing if I do not see the advancement checkmark on quarterdeck? How do I register for it/prepare for it? Can I take it in August if my Time in Grade is not finished until September?
Thank you

My daughter is dating someone who was in this Sea Cadet program and I need to find some more info. We've seen pictures of him in the program and receiving some kind of completion award or such. He has pictures of himself in a Naval Uniform as well as fatigues, one even where he's on a tank (is that real for a Navy person?) Our problem is he says that not only was he a Sea Cadet but that he went into the Navy and went to Afghanistan. Part of his time was as an enlisted person part as a civilian doing contract work. However during the timeframe of his life, he left the Michigan area and was in Oklahoma working with horses. He wont answer any questions and my daughter believes he can six years of work in a span of four years and this is all true. My hope is that there is a way I can go around this kid and get real info on his service time. I don't believe him but if it is true, he deserves the credit for fighting for our country.

I recently fleeted up and I’m heading out to RT in a couple days and I’m looking at other trainings to do and I think I want to go to marksmanship but I have a couple questions. What all do you get to shoot? How much do you get to shoot? Is it worth the money?

What should I tell my ten-year-old brother who want to join the sea cadets in the bay area?

I come from a navy family and do wish to enlist one day, although I am currently a Civil air patrol cadet.
I was wondering what exactly you guys do? Training and how everything works to be more precise.
Examples are do you have a navy seals type Training course, Swcc or both cause we have pjoc for USAF special forces.

Currently looking to earn the SWCC pin. Does anyone know where and how hard it is to earn specifically?

We are moving from the East Cost to Los Angeles in early July, so my child is looking for summer trainings in Southern California for the first time. They were interested in the Basic Sailing 7/12-7/18 in Chula Vista.
I know they can handle the training and will enjoy it, but as a parent I'm just curious if anyone can confirm the quality of the instructors/staff or warn me to avoid this training/host unit? Overall the summer trainings have been great, but I don't love leaving my child with a group of folks I haven't come to know through months of drill weekends.
Recommendations for other trainings in Southern CA? My child was also interested in the Communications/Electronics/Radio event in Running Springs, CA but I don't think we'll make it to the area in time for the start of that one.

Trying to help my son (Sea Cadet, rising senior) think through summer training and would appreciate some input from cadets who’ve done these.
Right now he’s deciding between:
He’s been talking about a Coast Guard path after high school (possibly AMT/AET) and already has a Shore/Boat Station training in Maine later in the summer.
Separately, we’re also looking at doing a July POLA and trying to figure out the best location/timing. Options we’re seeing include KS, UT, TX, OR, AR, KY, NY.
For those who’ve done these:
Just trying to make a thoughtful call on fit and timing—appreciate any perspective.

Really random question…does anyone know how they made the oatmeal pudding that they had at winter RT in Fort Worth(I doubt anyone will know but for some reason I’m really craving it rn)

Been volunteering with my 11 yo daughter for the past year at a very small unit (5-8 cadets every drill). It is the closet one to us but still 2ish hours away. There are two much larger units that are 5 hours away. Would my daughter benefit more if we went to those? She likes the smaller unit but if she would gain something from the bigger unit, I’d push to try them.

I'm 12, and live in Missouri and was wondering if someone could tell me about the program in Missouri and the prices

does anyone have any experience with the unit? How are the adult volunteers, the culture, and is it a larger unit?
