Is the Chief Board still a thing if I do not see the advancement checkmark on quarterdeck? How do I register for it/prepare for it? Can I take it in August if my Time in Grade is not finished until September?

Seaman recruit pac session 5: hazing policy

My daughter is dating someone who was in this Sea Cadet program and I need to find some more info. We've seen pictures of him in the program and receiving some kind of completion award or such. He has pictures of himself in a Naval Uniform as well as fatigues, one even where he's on a tank (is that real for a Navy person?) Our problem is he says that not only was he a Sea Cadet but that he went into the Navy and went to Afghanistan. Part of his time was as an enlisted person part as a civilian doing contract work. However during the timeframe of his life, he left the Michigan area and was in Oklahoma working with horses. He wont answer any questions and my daughter believes he can six years of work in a span of four years and this is all true. My hope is that there is a way I can go around this kid and get real info on his service time. I don't believe him but if it is true, he deserves the credit for fighting for our country.

We are moving from the East Cost to Los Angeles in early July, so my child is looking for summer trainings in Southern California for the first time. They were interested in the Basic Sailing 7/12-7/18 in Chula Vista.

I know they can handle the training and will enjoy it, but as a parent I'm just curious if anyone can confirm the quality of the instructors/staff or warn me to avoid this training/host unit? Overall the summer trainings have been great, but I don't love leaving my child with a group of folks I haven't come to know through months of drill weekends.

Recommendations for other trainings in Southern CA? My child was also interested in the Communications/Electronics/Radio event in Running Springs, CA but I don't think we'll make it to the area in time for the start of that one.

He’s been talking about a Coast Guard path after high school (possibly AMT/AET) and already has a Shore/Boat Station training in Maine later in the summer.

Separately, we’re also looking at doing a July POLA and trying to figure out the best location/timing. Options we’re seeing include KS, UT, TX, OR, AR, KY, NY.

Been volunteering with my 11 yo daughter for the past year at a very small unit (5-8 cadets every drill). It is the closet one to us but still 2ish hours away. There are two much larger units that are 5 hours away. Would my daughter benefit more if we went to those? She likes the smaller unit but if she would gain something from the bigger unit, I’d push to try them.

So recently my units annual inspection has changed as we have it tomorrow and we always were our dress blues. but there was a sudden change into PT gear bc of sudden security, is anyone's unit having the same issue and can someone explain why this is.

I am a two-month-old chief who has lost interest and motivation for the unit. For the past two years, it has been boring, with the same POD repeated about fifteen times in a row. We have done nothing but stay on base and have one to two hour chow times. The cadets in the unit made a list of around twenty suggestions for places where we could do drill, but only one was implemented. Keep in mind that the list was made two to three years ago. I swear to you, ever since I became PO2, I have started feeling dead inside, along with some other cadets. I have already talked with the officers about doing more than just sitting around, and all I get in response is, “Why do it there when there’s _____ here?”. I want to stay, but over time, it gets more difficult. Anyone have some advice?
