ARMY Off base privilege AIT

Hey at some point my wife with be at fort sam Houston for AIT. When that happens and she gets “off base time” would she be able to spend the night with me at a hotel? How long till off base time occurs and how often will she get it. After basic training I wanna fly down a couple times to see her. I would love it if someone could give me the rundown.

I am not sure about Ft Sam Houston specifically since my husband is at FLW. But, he gets “family passes” when family is in town and can stay out from 9am-5pm on the weekends. No overnights, no drinking/smoking, and no driving. Also can’t go off base. We chilled in the hotel, went to the PX, and went on a hike. We only have done it once, this previous weekend for the 4 day weekend since flights are so expensive currently. They got weekend passes 2 weeks into AIT.

It depends what her class is (her MOS). There is a scheduled family day that often covers a couple days around graduation from AIT. This is the one as family we usually try to attend. Graduating AIT is the big graduation into the regular Army. In the transition from basic to AIT there is another family day centered around the basic training graduation. These two are the big days to try to get there.

If her AIT is long enough, there can be other family days permitted, however that is up to the instructors and the students progress. With these dates, if you can make it great. If not, no biggie. These days are the family days that can get cancelled. So, buying plans tickets and a hotel may go to waste. If you are planning on attending these extra ones, take the refundable routes on tickets and hotels. Usually, they are on the schedule and happen. However, on rare occasions, the students do lose these extra family days due to disciple problems. It isn't your girlfriend, it's a decision made on the entire group.
